Description
Megalodon, meaning "big tooth", is an extinct species of shark that lived approximately 23 to 3.6 million years ago, during the Early Miocene to the Pliocene.
The most common fossils of megalodon are its teeth. Megalodon teeth are known to have a triangular shape, robust structure, large size, fine serrations, and a visible V-shaped neck (where the root meets the crown.) The tooth meets the jaw at a steep angle, similar to the great white shark.
Megalodon teeth can measure over 7.1 inches in slant height (diagonal length) and are the largest of any known shark species.
It is thought that every inch of tooth represents about 10 foot of shark so a 5 inch tooth would come from a 50 foot shark. If this is true and the megladon did attain a size of over 50 feet, it would be the largest known fish to ever have lived, surpassing the Jurassic fish.
This megalodon tooth is 5 inches tall and 4.5 inches wide and comes with a beautiful display stand, sure to impress the discerning eye.
