Description
Gary Green Jasper, also known as Larsonite, is a petrified bogwood found in the McDermitt area on the Nevada / Oregon border. It’s bright colors and patterns make this a very unique material. The majority of the material is usually green and blue, but also contains various other colors such as pinks, oranges and browns. The patterns resemble cut limbs, but you can also find this material with orb or egg patterns.
It's believed to be a wood that was covered by volcanic activity between 11-15 million years ago. The volcanic event covered this area in debris that deprived the plants of oxygen, halting the decay process. Minerals from the volcanic ash then acted as the replacement material for this petrification and mineralization, giving the wood stunning vibrant colors.
The teal to lime green color of the material is caused by a combination of iron, aluminium, potassium, sodium and calcium.
