Are you looking for a unique stone from Alaska? Look no further than this beautiful deep green One Duck Greenstone (also known as Prince Of Wales Greenstone) from Prince Of Wales Island in SE Alaska.
One Duck Greenstone is "light jade" in color with a distinctive, wavy banding of alternating light and dark greens, formed as layers of deposition in a marine environment. Its wavy pattern suggests that the water was turbid. Structural geologists call this rock "turbidite."
It is harder than marble, but softer than granite. It should be worked by grinding, not chipping. Not a calcium carbonate like marble or limestone, One Duck Greenstone is great for outdoor rock gardens and will not deteriorate in the outdoors. Its polish is long lasting.
This stone comes from the One Duck Lake area of Prince of Wales Island.
