Description

These colorful ammolite mosaic cabochon's are all the best parts of ammolite shells fused together into one piece.

Ammolite is an opal-like organic gemstone made of the fossilized shells of ammonites, a group of extinct marine mollusc animals. This organic gemstone has a dazzling range of colors and patterns and is highly desired for freeform natural cabochons and assembled jewelry pieces.

It is found primarily along the eastern slopes of the Rocky Mountains of North America in the Bearpaw Formation that extends from Alberta to Saskatchewan in Canada and south to Montana in the USA.

Ammolite can come in any color in the rainbow but most are green and red. Blue and violet are rare and, typically, more valuable.

Ammonite was named after the Ancient Egyptian god Amun, who was represented with ram’s horns.

hardness: 3.5-5.5 transparency: opaque, thin sheets used in assembled stones may be translucent to transparent luster: vitreous to resinous refractive index: 1.520-1.670 As ammolite is rare, no two are alike, you will receive a similar, but not exact piece.

Denali

Denali Glacier Landing Expedition

Walk on the massive Yanert Glacier with views of the spectacular and vast Alaska landscape! Experience the delight of standing upon the ancient Yanert Glacier on Denali's original glacier landing! Fed from the precipice of Mt. Deborah, which towers over the glacial valley in which you'll land, explored primarily by TEMSCO Denali, we invite you to truly encounter the great Alaskan Wilderness. Your tour will begin at our private heliport. From take-off, you'll soar over the rolling hills and sharp, jagged peaks of the Alaskan Backcountry as you travel up the currents of the glacially-fed Yanert River with your experienced pilot as your guide of the area. And, be sure to keep an eye out for caribou, moose, bear, and dall sheep on the way. Upon landing on the glacier, you will be free to roam the icy terrain. Have a drink of the freshest water this earth has to offer. Take home an ancient rock emerged from the crevices of the massive ice moraines. But, most importantly take it all in. Let your mind capture the imagery a camera never could. See the perfect shades of blue, wonder at the towering walls of the mountain surrounding you, and fall in love with Alaska the way it was meant to be seen.

Chilkat Inlet Coastal Hike

Duration- 5 hours Enjoy glacier, mountain and ocean views of Southeast Alaska on this remote coastal hike. Knowledgeable guides enjoy sharing their love for Alaska's flora & fauna. Overview Join this spectacular hiking adventure that immerses you in the remote beauty of Southeast Alaska, where you will be surrounded with amazing mountain, glacier, and ocean views. At the start of your tour you will be greeted by your professional hiking guide for a remote coastal hike along the Chilkat Inlet. We’ll drive for about 30 minutes along the Haines Peninsula to Chilkat State Park. Along the way, your guide will tell you about the history and geography of small town Haines, Alaska. It is a beautiful drive with many scenic photo opportunities. Once at the trailhead, the hike begins over rolling terrain through temperate rainforest. Your knowledgeable, naturalist guide will talk about the flora and fauna of the region. The trail is slightly rolling as we make our way towards Moose Meadows, aptly named for the occasional moose seen grazing along the seaside. As we step out onto the beach, we are treated with magnificent glacier views across the fjord. The total hiking distance is about 3-5 miles depending on the group and weather conditions. The trail rises about 100 feet total in elevation. The trail is out and back, so depending on the pace of the group, we may continue south along the coast of the peninsula. We’ll stop along the way for a picnic lunch with a fantastic view. After lunch, we’ll return back through Moose Meadows and make our way back to the pier in Haines. Dress for changing weather as conditions can change quickly in Alaska. Bring a rain jacket, and extra layer. Don’t forget your camera! Please note: The exact hiking route may vary depending on the group and weather conditions. Wildlife sightings are likely but are not guaranteed. More Info * Activity level: **Moderate** (You’ll be hiking over uneven, natural terrain. There are exposed roots, rocks and sometimes slippery and muddy sections. The trail has relatively little elevation change but has sections taking place on loose beach rock.) * Ages 8+ * Picnic style lunch and water provided * Provided equipment: Trekking poles * Recommended clothing: Stable closed-toed shoes, layers for warmth, and bring rain gear * Wheelchair accessible: No * Medical restrictions: This is a physical activity and it is the guest’s responsibility to determine if they are physically and mentally able to participate in the activity - pertinent medical conditions must be disclosed to the guide * Restrooms are available on the dock prior to departing for your tour * The trail is approximately 3-5 miles * Liability Waiver Required
