Description

Catlinite, also called pipestone, is a type of argillite (metamorphosed mudstone), usually brownish-red in color.

Because it is fine-grained and easily worked, it is prized by Indigenous communities, primarily those of the Plains nations and continues to be used for carvings and sculptures by artists and indigenous peoples.

Pipestone blocks are sold in approximately 1 pound increments, with no 2 alike.

Price is for 2 pounds.

Private Tour - White Pass Summit

Join us for breath taking views! Our journey begins with a historic city tour of Skagway, here you will see what life was like during the days of the 1898 Klondike Gold Rush and how it has evolved to present-day Skagway. Your guide will provide historic commentary as you make your way through town and onto the Klondike Highway. Enjoy breathtaking views as we make our way to the summit, the highway is filled with larger-than-life waterfalls, glaciers, and wildflower-covered valleys. Photo opportunities will be available throughout the tour including a stop at the Welcome to Alaska sign. While we never guarantee seeing wildlife, there is strong potential along this route. These pristine environments provide great habitat for bears, moose, foxes, sheep, and many other creatures. Have your camera ready because you may only have a second to capture the moment. We'll stop at multiple overlooks to witness the beauty of this pristine mountain environment.
