Scenic Anchorage City Tour

Embark on an exploration of Alaska’s largest city on this two-and-a-half-hour tour of Anchorage. Salmon Berry Tours’ local Alaskan guide will showcase Anchorage’s rich green spaces, abundant history, and cultural connections for an immersive experience that teaches about the importance of Place. Beginning along the shores of Ship Creek, learn more about Anchorage’s memorable past and bright future. Port of Anchorage at Ship Creek Grandma Olga Ezi Bronze Arctic Art Installation Earthquake Park Lake Hood Chugach Mountains Scenic Overlook at Glen Alps Trailhead *ITINERARY Begin your historical tour from the heart of downtown, visiting the shores of Ship Creek, where Anchorage was born out of a desire for industry through a modest tent city. In June and July, you might be able to view Chinook salmon swimming upstream to spawn in the world’s only urban King salmon fishery. Here, we will walk to the bronze Arctic art installation honoring Grandma Olga Ezi, a Dena’ina First People matriarch who settled the Alaska Native village of Eklutna to the east. From Ship Creek, we will travel to the west end of Anchorage through Bootleggers Cove, stopping for a walk in Earthquake Park where in 1964, a 9.2 earthquake shook the city for almost five minutes and caused an upheaval of the silty shoreline and bluffs of town; the second-most powerful earthquake ever recorded. From the park, your guide will take a drive around Lake Hood, home to the world’s busiest seaplane airport and base. Finally, the tour van winds its way up the Hillside neighborhood of Anchorage toward a scenic overlook within the Chugach State Park system, our final stop. Weather permitting, guests have the opportunity to take panoramic photos of Anchorage, surrounding mountain ranges, and stunning Cook Inlet. While we can’t guarantee wildlife viewing during this tour through the City of Flowers & Lights, we are known for our big wildlife and it is not uncommon to see an occasional moose or bald eagle. Return downtown to explore the local shops and eateries or join us for an afternoon tour!

Private Whale Watching: for groups with 6+ Guests!

Traveling with a group on your vacation? We have several vessels to choose from in order to accommodate different group sizes, and make it so you get the whole boat to yourselves! Private tours are sold at a flat rate charge plus taxes and fees, no matter how many people you have on board. Keep in mind that we cannot exceed the maximum capacity of our boats. Also, because our tours operate back to back throughout the day, our tour times are set in stone so we are unable to shift start times. Transportation is still shared with public tours, unless otherwise arranged. The times listed represent the length of the tour in its entirety, from pick-up to drop-off! This four-hour and 15-minute tour includes approximately one hour of roundtrip transfer time, three hours of whale watching/sightseeing cruise, stop at Brotherhood Bridge, and bathroom breaks. Most tours will include a stop at the Brotherhood Bridge for a photo opportunity of the Mendenhall Glacier. We will pick you up in our courtesy shuttle near your cruise ship (or a convenient downtown meeting spot) and drive you out to the boat and return you there when we are done with the tour. On a private tour, you may customize your experience even more by ordering food & drink items. Choose from a list of our available options upon booking.
