Private Summer Ride With Iditarod Team

Offered by Alaskan Husky Adventures  In Willow, Alaska

About us

We're a family-run Iditarod team, signed up to race again in 2023! Whether you’re in the mood for a relaxing, scenic ride or the bucket-list thrill of a lifetime, we have the perfect adventure for you! Our humanitarian award-winning, champion dog sled kennel is conveniently located in Willow, Alaska, just a short drive from Anchorage. Every ride takes place on our secluded, private trails with Denali views, and includes plenty of time for meeting and playing with the dogs! You'll leave feeling a part of our team, and with some furry friends to cheer for on Iditarod, Alaska's most famous, thousand-mile race!

What we'll do

No need to bundle up in the snow to experience dog sledding—on this private tour, you’ll zip through the Alaskan forest on a two-person dog sled, exploring secluded, private trails the pups use for their Iditarod training.

Afterward, interact with the champion dogs, ask questions, snack on cookies, take in the view of Denali, and learn all about this timeless Alaskan tradition. (It’s Alaska's official state sport!) Learn all about how to dog sled from trained mushers themselves. Go for a private dog sled ride, mushing your way through the forest. Interact and play with the dogs—they're very friendly! Learn about the team's training and the history of dog sledding in Alaska.

*Location:
We live on-site with our dogs in beautiful Willow, Alaska! We are 70 miles north of Anchorage, about a 1.5-hour scenic drive on main, highway roads. If you are headed to/from Denali or Talkeetna, we are on our way!

Our home sits at the base of Hatcher Pass, which connects our small town with Palmer. In the summertime, our guests can drive the Pass to get between these two destinations and combine activities for a day trip to the Mat-Su Valley!

* How to get here:
Most of our guests find renting a car or using a ride-sharing app such as Uber/Lyft to be the most economic option for transportation.

*We partner with a couple of shuttle companies that provide transportation from Anchorage at $125 per hour. The minimum roundtrip to our place is 4.5 hours.

Please call to arrange shuttle transportation!

*What to wear:
We have a saying in Alaska, that if you don’t like the weather, just wait 15 minutes! That can be especially true in the summertime! We recommend dressing in layers, and having a rain jacket on-hand, in the event of unexpected showers. We also advise wearing sunscreen, closed-toed shoes and clothes you don’t mind getting dirty!

*We don’t have a weight limit, but it is really helpful to know ahead of time if guests are on the larger side. That way we can plan for it and allocate a larger number of dogs for the ride. Our seats in the sled are a standard size, slightly wider than an airline seat. We also have the option for guests to stand if they are unable to fit.

*For any guests weighing 250 or more, please indicate in the "booking notes" during checkout.

Cancellation Policy

Cancellations are available with at least 24 hours notice prior to check-in. If there are six or more guests in your party, and you wish to cancel the entire reservation, we require written notice 72 hours prior to check-in.

Late arrivals and no-shows will not be refunded. In the rare event that inclement weather conditions force us to cancel your scheduled adventure, we will contact you directly to reschedule or provide a full refund.
