What To Expect
-Ketchikan is a rainforest- prepare for light to heavy rain. Light raincoat with a hood should work, wearing a long-sleeved shirt for warmth.
-Terrain in most places are leveled with some gravel, with minimal incline. Any type of shoes is fine. I recommend no sandals if we happen to walk a beach, due to sharp rocks.
-Frequent stops for breathtaking views or wildlife encounters.
- If you use a scooter, the vehicle can only accommodate up to four passengers.
- Herring Cove can be busy with other companies with their groups. Everyone works together to make it comfortable as much as possible to park and enjoy watching bears.

Experience Ketchikan as I know it, with a born and raised local Alaskan Native from the Tlingit and Haida tribes. Enjoy a private tour in a comfortable setting as we drive to beautiful destinations. You will hear about some history of Alaska and Ketchikan, our medicinal and edible plants in our plush rainforest.

. We can explore some of the Tongass National Forest at certain stops and get those beautiful photos of the many species of the flora and fauna that is nestled in the rainforest. Herring Cove is minutes from downtown Ketchikan; we will bring you to prime locations where Black Bears are often seen. This journey into the homes of our wildlife, we will tell you stories of growing up in Ketchikan and our own personal encounters with the bears. We share this forest in their home; to respect the forest and its animals, we will continue to practice safety first for our customers. Before we get started on your tour, a brief introduction about animals that are in Ketchikan and what to expect. Taking a tour with us, we can explore other parts of Ketchikan on the back roads to look for bears. We use a small vehicle to drive in residential areas where bears are known to disturb your garbage bins. Always have your video ready, sometimes wildlife appears out of no where.

More Information Our meeting & outfitting location is about a 10-15 minute walk from the downtown cruise ship docks (Berth 1-3), and about a 20 minute walk from Berth 4 & the Ward Cove shuttle drop off. Most guests enjoy the walk through the historic downtown area which includes several points of interest like Creek Street. If you require a pickup from the downtown cruise ship docks, please contact us at least 48 hours prior to your tour time. For our guests arriving at Ward Cove (NCL and affiliates), we will reach out with more information regarding the Ward Cove shuttle.
Mountain Lakes Tour
This 30-minute flight gives passengers a view of the pristine Tongass National Forest of Southeast Alaska. This temperate rainforest provides opportunities for mountain goat and black bear sightings. The flight rounds five gorgeous lakes that are only accessible via hiking. So if you are only visiting for a short while this tour is for you. Option to add an exclusive landing: additional $32 per person: add a 20-minute landing on a remote ocean beach or lake on Alaskan Native land giving you the opportunity to take photos and enjoy the peace and beauty of the forest surrounding Ketchikan. Backwater Bears & Whale watching Excursion
Approximately 50-100 miles round trip, we pick you up right at the cruise ship or convenient dock. From there we head out FAST in order to cover ground and ensure you the best chance at witnessing the wildlife that make often frequent the wilderness rivers and tributaries of the the Tongass National Forest. Half Day Fishing Excursion
Halibut, Lingcod, Rockfish, sharks and more are reeled up everyday on this trip based out Ketchikan Alaska! You start out the day with a fast ride out of port 15-20miles right through some of the richest whale watching grounds in South East Alaska to our fishing hot spots. This is a bottom fish excursion where you will be fishing at depths of 100-300 feet for Rockfish and Cod. Waterfall Creek Peak Season Brown Bear Viewing
Begin your wilderness adventure with a scenic 30-minute floatplane flight. Be sure to have your camera ready as you glide over amazing landscapes and look out for marine wildlife below before touching down at Waterfall Creek. This is a relatively unknown, remote wilderness location that provides unmatched brown bear viewing during the peak of the salmon run, late July-August. After landing, disembark from the floatplane and wave goodbye to the Alaskan bush pilot. The primary viewing spot is a short walk down the rocky shoreline. Follow the sounds of the waterfall and splashing salmon, as the guide hikes the group to the viewing location. Brown bears may be seen at any time while ashore. The guide will direct to the best spots for viewing and photography. Groups will spend most time seated, quiet, and still to enhance the opportunities of seeing bears. While we do occasionally have close encounters, our goal is for the bears to ignore us and engage in their natural behaviors.
