What We Will Do
We start off the tour with a nice trip over the whale watching grounds on a 12 mile run to the crabbing location. From there we put your names on the crab pot buoys, bait the pots and toss them over. Huge Dungeness crab, rock crab, and even Puget Sound king/Box crab, starfish and other oddities are hauled up in our crab traps. We can spend some time doing a bit of fishing or whale watching in the middle of the tour.

What To Expect
*Duration: 4.5-5 hours
Maximum of 6 clients per vessel, multiple vessels available.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
*WHAT MAKES REEL ALASKA A GREAT CHOICE?
We go the extra mile, extra fast... Literally and figuratively. We pay hefty port fees to ensure we can provide direct access to pick you up & drop you off in the closest possible location to maximize your time on the water. After the handshake and greeting as you walk off the cruise ship, we hop aboard one of our premier enclosed cabin sport fishing boats equipped with new Yamaha engines, enclosed private bathrooms and head out to make some life long memories.
Paired with industry leading equipment provided by premier companies like Gibbs Delta, Pelagic, Garmin, and Seaguar, we keep the fishing hot!!!
*CAN I KEEP MY CATCH?
YES!! We help facilitate this with our local custom processing company. At a cost of $2.75 per pound for finished weight before S&H. It's cleaned, filleted, vacuum packed and flash frozen while being stored in a freezer until the date you would like it shipped to your home. FEDEX overnight priority is used.
*DO I NEED TO BRING SNACKS AND DRINKS?
We supply snacks and drinks onboard all of our vessels but you are welcome to bring your own lunch or request something specific be onboard at your expense.
*WHAT KIND OF CLOTHING SHOULD I BRING?
We encourage you to dress according to the weather of the day, especially if its due to rain. For weeks straight it might be sunny and 70s but with that being said it might be weeks straight of rain and 55-60s. Layers, and waterproofing are key!
*WHAT HAPPENS IN CASE OF EMERGENCY?
All of our captains are USCG and CPR certified with years of experience on the water. All of our vessels are equipped with an adequate amount of life jackets, and other safety equipment such as fire extinguishers, radios, first aid kits, etc.
We have other vessels on standby, and even float planes willing to render aid and ensure a safe and timely return to port.
*WHAT KIND OF FISHING LICENSE DO I NEED?
Fishing in Alaska requires you to have a valid Alaska fishing license at all times. To fish with us, you will need a sport fishing license. Resident and Non-Resident options are available.
Children ages 15 and under are free.
*DO YOU OFFER DISCOUNTED CHILD RATES?
We do not offer child rates at our charter. Each person on the boat is capable of catching the same amount of fish and are taking the spot of an angler, therefore all of our prices are equal regardless of age.
*WHAT SHOULD I WEAR?
Wearing comfortable layers is the best way to dress. Layers allow for you to take off or put on clothes depending on the temperature. Rain gear is always a good idea, even if it doesn’t rain. Being on the boat you might get splashed a little and there will be water on the deck. It’s better to be dry and happy, rather than wet and miserable.
*IS THERE A BATHROOM?
Yes!!! On every one of our vessels!
*SEASICKNESS?
We advise guests prone to seasickness to take their medication before boarding the vessel and check with your doctor about preventative medications prior to their trip. We take guests to some of the most remote waters in Southeast Alaska, which tend to be sheltered close to the shoreline. If at any time a guest feels conditions are not to their liking, our captains are happy to move the boat.
*DO YOU ACCOMMODATE LARGE GROUPS?
Absolutely. We frequently have large groups visit us for business trips so we know how to accommodate a crowd.
*ARE THERE SNACKS AND WATER PROVIDED ONBOARD?
Yes! However we recommend bringing any of your own favorite snacks and drinks!
*DO I NEED TO BRING ANY OF MY OWN FISHING GEAR?
No, we provide all the fishing equipment, boats, bait, and your fishing guide. Yes, you can bring your own fishing equipment if you desire too. (Especially fly gear, waders, boots, raingear)

Cook Your Catch Wilderness Dining
This is a bottom fish excursion where you will be fishing at depths of 100-300 feet for Rockfish and Cod. The excursion is operated in a 23ft open air skiff that accommodates a maximum of 6 passengers. After fishing for 3-4 hours, your party will arrive at our remote campsite where you will have a meal featuring your catch of the day. Guests are also served our delicious blueberry-rhubarb bread pudding for dessert, which is also prepared at camp. We provide tea, coffee, water sodas, a covered area to relax and iconic campfires. Our private campsite allows you to explore Ketchikan’s old growth forest and rocky beaches before and after your meal, giving you the chance to soak in the beauty of Alaska’s wilderness. Our culinary adventures give you a taste of all we have to offer. Enjoy a genuine Alaskan tradition as you have your catch prepared for you by our chef on a wilderness beach, at sea, or at a private table at the Alaska Fish House. 1) Cook Your Catch: Wilderness Dining Baranof Excursions has a remote campsite on a wilderness beach south of Ketchikan, ready for your arrival with your fresh-caught fish. Pull up with your guide in one of our boats, and step ashore to meet our campsite host. In just a few short minutes, we’ll quickly cook up a fresh bouillabaisse featuring your catch for you to enjoy in the comfort of a crackling beach fire, accompanied by beautiful views of the rainforest and the wild, rocky shoreline of our private beach. 2) Cook Your Catch: Private Dining At The Alaska Fish House On arrival back to town, our guides will lay out your fish at our fish cleaning station and help you determine which fish you want to eat and how to prepare it to best meet your culinary desires. Once you’ve made your choice, we’ll run your fresh catch-up to our chefs in the Alaska Fish House. By the time, you’re done taking your raingear off, washing your hands, and getting back into your civilian clothes, we’ll have a private table ready for you in our rustic-style dining room, and an expertly prepared meal on its way. Once you’ve settled at your table, enjoy a cold, Alaskan-brewed Denali beer or a glass of wine to accompany your meal and give yourself the chance to relax into an authentic Southeast Alaskan dining experience. (If you'd like, we encourage you to invite your family members that you left in town, and share in your catch). Be it maple-glazed salmon served on a bed of rice and locally-harvested sea asparagus, crab-stuffed halibut baked with finely sliced onions and garlic, battered and fried lingcod dipped in a homemade tartar sauce, or a pile of prawns grilled to perfection, you’ll find the locals eager to share the bounty of our oceans. And, trust us: there is nothing—and we mean nothing—that compares to the taste of fresh-caught fish prepared within just hours of the catch. Most of us will be quick to tell you there is no meal better than the meal you share with friends and family after a long day out fishing. We doubt you’ll be surprised that here at Baranof Excursions we’re right in culinary step with any good Southeast Alaskan. With us, your fishing experience doesn’t stop after you’ve reeled in your catch. In our opinion, the ultimate denouement of your Alaskan fishing adventure is in savoring the fruits of your labor in an authentic Alaskan dining experience. We are experts and find enjoyment in taking your fresh fish, putting you in a unique environment, and opening the way for you to break bread with your friends and family.
