About us
In our approach, we prioritize quality over quantity. This is reflected in our deliberate choice of specific bloodlines and our commitment to dedicating ample time to each dog. Our goal is to nurture not only exceptional athletes but also cherished companions.
Our canine family is a diverse one. They're resilient, formidable competitors in races, and at the same time, they exude warmth and affability, making them excellent companions for our tours.
Let us introduce you to our mushers:
Richie: Hailing from the Midwest and transplanted to Alaska, Richie's journey in dog mushing spans over two decades. He's taken part in a range of mid-distance races, including the Copper Basin 300, Two Rivers 200, Minto Dash 100 Memorial, Yukon Quest 300, and Solstice 100, and boasts the title of a three-time Yukon Quest 1000 finisher. His inaugural finish in 2006 earned him the prestigious Rookie of the Year, and he also completed the 2019 Iditarod 1000 Mile Race.
Emily: Originating from Maine, Emily's introduction to the world of dog mushing began with a handful of huskies and a small dog sled. In 2015, she made the move to Two Rivers and has been devoted to running Alaskan Huskies ever since. While not primarily focused on racing, Emily revels in the process of training dogs, embarking on camping adventures with them, and providing invaluable support to Richie during his races. All the while, she expertly manages the operations of our kennel.
This is the heart of Wildthingz Dog Mushing, a place where our shared love for these incredible animals and the sport itself find its truest expression. We look forward to sharing this adventure with you.
What we'll do
Join us at Wildthingz Dog Mushing for an exhilarating summer sled dog ride adventure! From May to September, near the breathtaking Denali National Park in Alaska, we offer an intimate look into the world of dog mushing.
Located in Cantwell, nestled higher in the mountains from the Denali Park Entrance, our camp provides a window into our simple, off-grid lifestyle. Surrounded by our cherished 35 Alaskan huskies, you'll witness the process of harnessing a dog team to a multi-passenger ATV. Be swept away by the incredible strength of our dogs, all while learning about them from Richie Beattie, Iditarod '19 Rookie of the Year and three-time Yukon Quest finisher.
Following your ride, revel in the chance to meet our furry friends. Each of them adores a friendly pat, and depending on the puppies' age and availability, you might even enjoy some cuddles.
Immerse yourself in a presentation that unveils the intricacies of racing and training sled dogs for long-distance races. Our tours are intentionally small, ensuring all your queries find ample time for answers.
Our Summer Sled Dog Ride & Kennel Tour grants visitors an immersive look into the life of a dog musher. Guided by Richie, guests will be introduced to harnessing a dog team and enjoy a ride in a multi-passenger side-by-side vehicle. Afterward, get up close and personal with our beloved dogs. A guided walk-through of our off-grid summer camp and dog yard offers a deeper understanding of our way of life. Finally, gather in our visitor tent for a presentation about real dog sledding and racing during the winter, with a focus on the Yukon Quest and Iditarod 1000-mile races, dog care, and any other questions guests may have about dog mushing
