Go on an adventure as you explore the deep mysterious waters of island studded sea passages in search of wildlife aboard a rugged Zodiac expedition craft. Your experienced captain and expert naturalist will use their considerable local knowledge of the area to unlock the secrets of this biologically rich ecosystem. You will feel ocean air on your face and taste the salt of sea spray as you skim across the waves. You will indulge your curiosity as you navigate narrow channels, next to rocky coast lines, emerald forested islands, and black sandy beaches. You will become an explorer, a mariner, an adventurer.
The Private Alaska Ocean Wilderness Expedition option allows guests to book an exclusive tour for their group. Up to 12 passengers can be accommodated on this private tour. Please note our private tour cancellation policy prior to booking as it differs from our standard tours.
More Information
Our meeting & outfitting location is about a 10-15 minute walk from the downtown cruise ship docks (Berth 1-3), and about a 20 minute walk from Berth 4 & the Ward Cove shuttle drop off. Most guests enjoy the walk through the historic downtown area which includes several points of interest like Creek Street. If you require a pickup from the downtown cruise ship docks, please contact us at least 48 hours prior to your tour time. For our guests arriving at Ward Cove (NCL and affiliates), we will reach out with more information regarding the Ward Cove shuttle.

We operate in any weather, rain or shine, as long as the sea conditions allow safe exploration. Occasionally, we may have to cancel or delay a sailing due to rough seas and high winds. If we cancel your excursion, we will communicate with you as soon as the decision is made. In the event of a cancellation, you will have the choice of a full refund or re-booking for a different day. The safety of our crew and guests is our number one priority.

Customers will also receive a full refund or credit in case of operator cancellation due to weather, cruise ship delays, flight cancellations, or other unforeseen circumstances. Founded in 2019 by Ketchikan locals Eric Lunde and Delaney Murphy, Out to Sea Expedition Company’s mission is to explore our world with an adventurous spirit in a sustainable way. Out to Sea was inspired by a love for the pristine wilderness and wildness of Alaska, and a desire to share our beautiful home with visitors from around the world in a way that is both responsible and authentically Alaskan.
Cancellation Policy

Customers will also receive a full refund or credit in case of operator cancellation due to weather, cruise ship delays, flight cancellations, or other unforeseen circumstances. Contact us by email or phone to cancel or inquire about a cancellation. No-shows will be charged the full price.
For groups using the deposit payment option, please note the remaining balance will be charged to the card on file 60 days prior to your tour date. If there is a change to your payment information or a desire to split payments, please contact us ahead of time via phone or email. Failure to pay the remaining balance will result in cancellation of your reservation.

Ketchikan Crabbing, Whales & Wildlife Excursion
We start off the tour with a nice trip over the whale watching grounds on a 12 mile run to the crabbing location. From there we put your names on the crab pot buoys, bait the pots and toss them over. Huge Dungeness crab, rock crab, and even Puget Sound king/Box crab, starfish and other oddities are hauled up in our crab traps. We can spend some time doing a bit of fishing or whale watching in the middle of the tour. *DEPARTURE TIME MAY VARY

We begin with pickup at Eagle Park in our comfortable van in Ketchikan near the cruise ship dock. Guests are asked to arrive a few minutes early for check-in and to ensure a timely departure. Our tour starts with a comfortable drive to Herring Cove to explore a local waterfall and Rainforest Sanctuary. Then, we'll make our way into town to the Totem Heritage Center. This museum is host to dozens of beautiful and historic Totem Poles, dating back to the 1800s among other native artwork. Next, we'll head north to Totem Bight Historical Park, located on the former site of a traditional Native campground known as Mud Bight Village. See the Clan House and Totem Poles and hear stories of a legendary chief's strength, along with other totem stories and meanings. This remarkable site has significance dating back centuries, saw preservation improvements via the CCC in the 1930s, and is on the National Register of Historic Places.
