Your experienced captain and expert naturalist will use their considerable local knowledge of the area to unlock the secrets of this biologically rich ecosystem. You will feel ocean air on your face and taste the salt of sea spray as you skim across the waves in search of Alaska's unique wildlife. You will indulge your curiosity as you navigate narrow channels, next to rocky coast lines, emerald forested islands, and black sandy beaches. You will become an explorer, a mariner, an adventurer!
What To Expect
*Duration: 2.5 hours
*We provide rain gear, waterproof over boots, and a life jacket to keep you warm, safe, and dry.
*A light snack and hot tea or locally roasted coffee is provided.
*We suggest you dress warmly and in layers and bring a camera to document your discoveries.
*Your personal belongings can be stowed in one of our waterproof dry bags to keep them secure and out of the elements.
*While it is possible to see whales (about 50% of the time,) wildlife sightings are frequent but not guaranteed.
*The boat is outfitted with all the required safety equipment and operated by a USCG licensed Captain.
About Us
Founded in 2019 by Ketchikan locals Eric Lunde and Delaney Murphy, Out to Sea Expedition Company’s mission is to explore our world with an adventurous spirit in a sustainable way. We specialize in guided wildlife eco-tours and custom outdoor expeditions use fully inflatable Zodiacs to explore the stunning and reinvigorating waters surrounding Ketchikan.
Inspired by our mutual love for the pristine wilderness and wildness of Alaska, we wanted to find a way to share our beautiful home with visitors from around the world in a way that is both responsible and authentically Alaskan. Out to Sea Expedition Company strives to be economically, socially, and environmentally sustainable, and avoid creating negative impacts wherever possible.
In addition to our partnership with industry and community organizations, the company is also a member of 1% for the Planet, donating 1% of all sales to the research and conservation efforts of Audubon Alaska.
Cancellation Policy
Customers will receive a full refund or credit with 24 hours' notice of cancellation. Customers will also receive a full refund or credit in case of operator cancellation due to weather or other unforeseen circumstances.

More Information Our meeting & outfitting location is about a 10-15 minute walk from the downtown cruise ship docks (Berth 1-3), and about a 20 minute walk from Berth 4 & the Ward Cove shuttle drop off. Most guests enjoy the walk through the historic downtown area which includes several points of interest like Creek Street. If you require a pickup from the downtown cruise ship docks, please contact us at least 48 hours prior to your tour time. For our guests arriving at Ward Cove (NCL and affiliates), we will reach out with more information regarding the Ward Cove shuttle.

Mountain Lakes Tour
This 30-minute flight gives passengers a view of the pristine Tongass National Forest of Southeast Alaska. This temperate rainforest provides opportunities for mountain goat and black bear sightings. The flight rounds five gorgeous lakes that are only accessible via hiking. So if you are only visiting for a short while this tour is for you. Option to add an exclusive landing: additional $32 per person: add a 20-minute landing on a remote ocean beach or lake on Alaskan Native land giving you the opportunity to take photos and enjoy the peace and beauty of the forest surrounding Ketchikan. Backwater Bears & Whale watching Excursion
Approximately 50-100 miles round trip, we pick you up right at the cruise ship or convenient dock. From there we head out FAST in order to cover ground and ensure you the best chance at witnessing the wildlife that make often frequent the wilderness rivers and tributaries of the the Tongass National Forest. Half Day Fishing Excursion
Halibut, Lingcod, Rockfish, sharks and more are reeled up everyday on this trip based out Ketchikan Alaska! You start out the day with a fast ride out of port 15-20miles right through some of the richest whale watching grounds in South East Alaska to our fishing hot spots. We set anchor or slow drift with your fishing rod in hand- line over the side and down to the bottom of the ocean. Approximately 100-150 miles round trip, deep into the Misty Fjords National Monument, a 2.3-million acre wilderness of shear rock walls, temperate rainforest, and glacier-carved waterways. Cook Your Catch Wilderness Dining
This is a bottom fish excursion where you will be fishing at depths of 100-300 feet for Rockfish and Cod. The excursion is operated in a 23ft open air skiff that accommodates a maximum of 6 passengers. After fishing for 3-4 hours, your party will arrive at our remote campsite where you will have a meal featuring your catch of the day. Guests are also served our delicious blueberry-rhubarb bread pudding for dessert, which is also prepared at camp. We provide tea, coffee, water sodas, a covered area to relax and iconic campfires. Our private campsite allows you to explore Ketchikan’s old growth forest and rocky beaches before and after your meal, giving you the chance to soak in the beauty of Alaska’s wilderness. Our culinary adventures give you a taste of all we have to offer. Enjoy a genuine Alaskan tradition as you have your catch prepared for you by our chef on a wilderness beach, at sea, or at a private table at the Alaska Fish House. 1) Cook Your Catch: Wilderness Dining Baranof Excursions has a remote campsite on a wilderness beach south of Ketchikan, ready for your arrival with your fresh-caught fish. Pull up with your guide in one of our boats, and step ashore to meet our campsite host. In just a few short minutes, we’ll quickly cook up a fresh bouillabaisse featuring your catch for you to enjoy in the comfort of a crackling beach fire, accompanied by beautiful views of the rainforest and the wild, rocky shoreline of our private beach. 2) Cook Your Catch: Private Dining At The Alaska Fish House On arrival back to town, our guides will lay out your fish at our fish cleaning station and help you determine which fish you want to eat and how to prepare it to best meet your culinary desires. Once you’ve made your choice, we’ll run your fresh catch-up to our chefs in the Alaska Fish House. By the time, you’re done taking your raingear off, washing your hands, and getting back into your civilian clothes, we’ll have a private table ready for you in our rustic-style dining room, and an expertly prepared meal on its way. Once you’ve settled at your table, enjoy a cold, Alaskan-brewed Denali beer or a glass of wine to accompany your meal and give yourself the chance to relax into an authentic Southeast Alaskan dining experience. Salmon Shore Fishing
Come fishing with Chum Fun Salmon Charters, Juneau's only shoreside fishing adventure! About: Here in Juneau, we do a lot of our fishing from the docks and shorelines, not from boats. That's why we offer a local, hands-on fishing experience where our guests get to cast and reel instead of sitting in a boat without touching their rods! The Experience Let us get you outfitted with the best gear including rods, reels, tackle, rain gear (rain tops, rain bottoms, and rainboots), and an Alaska fishing license if you need one. Begin with a trip to the Macauley Salmon Hatchery where our guests will learn about the life cycles of a salmon, see the saltwater aquarium and explore the saltwater touch tanks. Then we will put our gear and knowledge to use and begin fishing at one of the best shoreside fishing locations around! All transportation is provided. In no time, you will be catching your own wild Alaska salmon! You may also see seals, sea lions, and eagles. Our first stop will be at the Macaulay Salmon Hatchery to take a tour and learn about the lifecycle of Alaska Salmon. The Macaulay tour is one of the highlights of our trip, including touch tanks that allow kids and parents alike to have close encounters with Juneau's marine life. After the tour, we will walk down to the dock and fish right at the mouth of the river. Our guides will provide training on how to reel, cast, and set a hook. Then it is up to you to land a gorgeous, Alaska salmon! You have two options. Either you can catch and release or get your fish professionally cleaned, packed, and shipped home through one of our local processing partners. Feel free to ask our guides for their favorite salmon recipes on the van ride back to downtown Juneau!
