About us
“There’s no way to describe the raw wild beauty of this place but one thing is for certain, it will draw you in. The only way to truly feel or appreciate it, is to come see it for yourself.”
Originally from Frederick, Maryland, Tanya did not grow up around boats and actually graduated with a BS in Business Administration. Shortly after graduating and trying out the corporate world, she traveled to Maui “just for a visit” and then started crewing on a whale watching boat. This was the beginning of a new journey. Tanya has always had a true passion for all animals and species of wildlife but this is where she also discovered her passion for boats and the sea.
In her spare time, she most enjoys exploring the Alaskan outdoors with her pup Cooper; hiking, fishing, camping, and of course boating! In the off season, you’ll most likely find her driving whale watching boats in Maui, working up in the Arctic (providing her the privilege of seeing polar bears in the wild), or volunteering in Africa working with a rescue, rehabilitation, and release organization caring for orphaned baby elephants.
What we'll do
Here we will watch and listen to the powerful sights and sounds of the glacier. Most likely we will see ice breaking off (calving) and crashing into the ocean. It truly is a magnificent sight!
Once we’ve spent some quality time at the glacier, we’ll venture out to do some more wildlife viewing while taking in some of nature’s most spectacular scenery. Depending on weather and wildlife sightings, we may visit the Chiswell Islands (a National Wildlife refuge and Bird sanctuary) and/or Cape Resurrection (one of the largest black-legged kittiwake rookeries in Alaska). Everyday is a different adventure and experience! The power of Mother Nature does not disappoint.
Kenai Fjords is one of the best areas for whales and wildlife viewing and offers the opportunity to see a variety of different species. Our most common sightings include Humpback Whales, Sea Otters, Steller Sea Lions, Puffins, Dall’s Porpoise, Mountain Goats, Harbor Seals, Orca Whales (Killer whales) and a large variety of bird species. We will provide you with a vast amount of information on all of the animals and surrounding areas that we’ll be exploring throughout the day. In addition, we will have marine mammal books, bird guide books, and other informational material on board.
Nothing can compare to seeing all of this natural beauty up close and personal. Our small group tours will not only provide you with a more intimate experience, but also a much more personalized and flexible tour. Whether it be scenic photography, searching for rare bird species, or finding whales and other exciting marine mammals, we will do our best to cater to everyone’s interests.
Our vessel, the Outright, is a 47’x15′ aluminum catamaran and is U.S. Coast Guard certified to hold 30 passengers, but we limit it to 15-22 passengers to maximize your space and comfort. There is plenty of cabin space and seating inside to accommodate everyone.
We also have a very large outside viewing area with bench seating on deck as well. And of course there is a bathroom, also known as a marine head, on board. The Outright is powered with quad 300hp outboards, allowing us plenty of speed to get to all of the best viewing areas!
What to expect / what's provided
*We run tours seven days a week on M/V Outright. Our tour will depart from the Seward Small Boat Harbor at 9:00am and return to the dock at 3:30pm. If the wildlife happens to be a little extra cooperative and fun, well then we may just have to stay out a bit longer if it complies with everyone’s schedule.
*Food and beverages will be provided. We will have a sandwich and chips style lunch along with a dessert treat. Soda and water will be offered with lunch. We will also have snacks during the trip as well as a Coffee and Tea.
*What should you bring?
Food and Drink: Please feel free to bring additional food and drinks if you would like. Alcoholic beverages are permitted if you bring your own, and if you drink responsibly.
Clothing: Dress in layers! No matter what the weather is calling for that day, make sure you bring enough to stay warm as the temperature can feel much cooler out on the water especially at the glacier and while the boat is underway. Bring warm clothes and definitely waterproof shells or outer layers. The cabin is heated and dry but most likely you will want to spend plenty of the day outside.
*We will be happy to design a personalized tour around your group’s interests! Just let us know what you have in mind and we will do our best to accommodate you and your group.
*Price includes Seward city tax and port fee.
