There’s nothing like the sound of a screaming reel and a bent-over rod as a King Salmon dives deeper, you’re hooked up! And from this point on, it’s likely your hooked on salmon fishing in Alaska. In May/June we are typically targeting the King (Chinook) Salmon, the largest of all the salmon who put up quite the fight. During the months of July and August, our focus is likely to be the Coho (Silver) Salmon. These silver bullets are sure to put even the most experienced anglers to the test. Often darting rapidly and jumping out of the water, they never give up without a fun fight. It’s not uncommon to hook into two, three, or more simultaneously, creating what we like to call organized chaos. While hooking these Cohos may seem like the only task, getting these fish netted and into the boat before they shake your hook is an even greater challenge. We run heli-fishing trips on multiple rivers throughout Southcentral Alaska, which is easily accessible from the Anchorage area. Our single day heli-fishing trips provide an amazing remote Alaskan river experience with much more ease than what you can accomplish on the road system. This is an opportunity to get out to nature, with no one else nearby and quickly start casting your fly in our amazing Alaskan tributaries, which are flowing with fish! This is a perfect trip for folks who want a wilderness trip/experience but don’t want to spend their whole time in Alaska in one remote location. Most trips depart from the beautiful town of Talkeetna in the shadow of Denali. Denali provides an amazing view as you are flown out to some of the most phenomenal fishing in Alaska. Once you're at the river, your guide will chat with you about your experience level and if needed do a hands on fly fishing 101to get even the most novice angler ready to expertly land some fish. Half Day Guided Ice Fishing Trip
Visiting Alaska in the winter and want to get a fishing rod in your hands? Join us for a fun filled day out on the ice! This trip is great for all ages and all experience levels! Most of the rivers we fish are covered in ice and a blanket of snow during a large portion of the year. If you're visiting Alaska in the winter and want to get a fishing rod in your hands, ice fishing Alaska is an amazing trip and a great time for all ages and all experience levels! Hard water fishing is a big part of Alaskan life and we are happy to share it with folks visiting our great state. We are able to take folks out ice fishing throughout the greater Anchorage area as well as Girdwood, and the Mat-Su Valley. Once the location is decided we will come pick you up or have you follow us out to the lake. Once we get there, guests and guides will walk out on to the lake and up goes the warm portable pop up ice shelter and out comes the ice auger to drill through the ice. Hot drinks or cold beer are readily at hand throughout the day, and a heater is churning away keeping the hut toasty and warm. We also provide homemade chili as a delicious hot snack. Everyone gets a fishing pole to pursue a variety of fish such as rainbow trout, Arctic grayling, juvenile salmon, black fish, and Arctic char. We also provide comfortable seats and ice cleats to help you make your time on the ice as comfortable and easy as possible. We provide almost everything you will need to have a great day out on the ice! Guest’s need to come prepared with their own warm clothes and footwear. After all, this is ice fishing Alaska style! Guests will also need a fishing license, and an eagerness to try and land some fish!

Charter fishing in Hoonah (Icy Strait), Alaska is the trip of a lifetime. Experience Alaska at its finest. What trip to Alaska would be complete without a private fishing charters excursion? After all, the waters near Hoonah, AK that includes Icy Strait are premium fishing grounds. This means no time wasted getting the hooks in the water on your 3.5 hour excursion. We will pick up and drop you off at dock facility property. We might even do some wildlife viewing! We start at docking facility for pick up. Its a short van ride to city harbor. There we board the boat and are on the water!
Red (Sockeye) Salmon Guided Fishing Adventure
Red salmon or Sockeye is one of the most numerous species of salmon in streams and rivers of Alaska. Red salmon is by far the State of Alaska’s most valuable commercial salmon species, with millions of fish returning to Bristol Bay, the Copper River Basin, the Prince William Sound, Upper Cook Inlet, and the Kenai Peninsula. The sockeye salmon is a plankton feeder which is unlike the other Alaska salmon species and they are very passive toward lures. This salmon generally spends 2-3 years in the ocean before returning to their spawning waterways in large schools. The driving force that brings the sockeye salmon to migrate to its spawning bed is legendary. You need only watch them leap waterfalls and speed through fast currents to see the force and will to survive that the red salmon possesses. Pound for pound the sockeye is the strongest and most demanding sport fish in Alaska. The State of Alaska sportfishing record for this salmon is 16 pounds.

We allow you to pick the length and timing of your visit. Your stay can be as short or long as you want it to be. You may arrive or depart on any day of the week. The one constraint is you must arrive in King Salmon (AKN) on a late morning flight and depart on a mid-afternoon flight. Specific dates are subject to availability. With only two clients per guide, the clients receive a lot of individual attention and assistance as we cater to their needs and desires. Instruction is part of the job for a guide. If you want some pointers or instructions, they will provide them.
Salmon Shore Fishing
Come fishing with Chum Fun Salmon Charters, Juneau's only shoreside fishing adventure! About: Here in Juneau, we do a lot of our fishing from the docks and shorelines, not from boats. That's why we offer a local, hands-on fishing experience where our guests get to cast and reel instead of sitting in a boat without touching their rods! The Experience Let us get you outfitted with the best gear including rods, reels, tackle, rain gear (rain tops, rain bottoms, and rainboots), and an Alaska fishing license if you need one. Begin with a trip to the Macauley Salmon Hatchery where our guests will learn about the life cycles of a salmon, see the saltwater aquarium and explore the saltwater touch tanks. Then we will put our gear and knowledge to use and begin fishing at one of the best shoreside fishing locations around! All transportation is provided. In no time, you will be catching your own wild Alaska salmon! You may also see seals, sea lions, and eagles. Our first stop will be at the Macaulay Salmon Hatchery to take a tour and learn about the lifecycle of Alaska Salmon. The Macaulay tour is one of the highlights of our trip, including touch tanks that allow kids and parents alike to have close encounters with Juneau's marine life. After the tour, we will walk down to the dock and fish right at the mouth of the river. Our guides will provide training on how to reel, cast, and set a hook. Then it is up to you to land a gorgeous, Alaska salmon! You have two options. Either you can catch and release or get your fish professionally cleaned, packed, and shipped home through one of our local processing partners. Feel free to ask our guides for their favorite salmon recipes on the van ride back to downtown Juneau!

Enjoy fishing on your own with a gear set! Lures are available for purchase upon arrival. We only provide 24-hour rentals, you are welcome to return gear prior to 24 hours. FAQ What kind of fish will I catch? King salmon are available in May and June. Keta salmon are available in June and July. Pink salmon and Silver salmon are available in August and September. Can I ship my catch home? Yes! There are several local seafood processing companies that will package your fish to arrive safely at your destination. What kind of fishing license do I need? You will most likely need a non-resident Alaska fishing license. You can pick it up and pay for it at our store, in cash. There is an ATM machine located in the lobby of our building.

Alaska Salmon & Halibut Fishing
Anyone can put a line in the water, but it takes special skill to catch Alaskan salmon, halibut, and bottom fish. After spending most of their lives unraveling the mysteries of Alaska fishing, your experienced fishing guide is skilled at instructing you on the ins and outs of Southeast angling. What's more, they really enjoy spending the day teaching you what you need to know. As fishing conditions change throughout the season, and taking into account the day's tides and weather, this multi-species Alaskan fishing expedition allows you to head out with confidence that you will catch fish. Your captain will recommend those species that have been producing the most in recent weeks, and help determine a game plan for the day; salmon fishing with halibut as time allows, or vice versa. During the peak of the summer season from June 15th to August 15th at the height of the salmon run you will have the best chance at catching multiple species. * FISHING ITINERARIES: 1) If You Are Visiting Ketchikan By Cruise Ship: We suggest beginning the excursion thirty minutes after your ship is scheduled to arrive in Ketchikan. The following timeline is for a six-hour Ketchikan fishing adventure. - Meetup: Your guide, or one of our crew, will greet you at the pier and escort you to our downtown marina and outfitting room. Look for a sign with your tour name on it. - Outfitting & licensing: Upon arrival at our marina, your guide will collect the state fee for your fishing license. While we fill out your licensing information, you'll start to look like a local as we outfit you with waterproof boots, bib overalls, hooded jackets, hats, and gloves. Fully prepared, you'll head for the boat. - Running to the fishing grounds: Our location in the heart of Downtown Ketchikan allows for a short boat ride to the rich salmon fishing grounds south of Ketchikan. Depending on the area your guide chooses to fish the ride to your fishing area is 10 to 20 minutes from the marina. Our guides customize your journey depending on the season, tides, and weather conditions. During this ride guests frequently spy eagles, seals, whales, spawning salmon, and even black bears. You may take as many photographs as you wish, or simply sit back and soak it all in. - Fishing: On board our vessels designed and outfitted specifically for salmon fishing you will spend the next few hours trolling or mooching, or trolling for King, Coho, Pink Salmon, and halibut. Your seasoned guide will teach you the secrets of using a flasher, a hoochie, or a jig to lure in your salmon. You will enjoy the thrill of fighting your fish, netting it, and bringing it home to enjoy. - Return to the marina Make your way back to the marina enjoying another breathtaking ride. Upon arrival you will remove your fishing gear and your guide will ensure that you make it back to your ship in a timely fashion. If you choose to ship your fish home or have it smoked, a simple form needs filled out, and we will process your fish for shipping to arrive on the date of your choice. 2) If You Are Overnighting In Ketchikan: For those travelers who arrive in Ketchikan by the State ferry or Alaska Airlines, and are staying longer than one day, we can arrange for multiple days on the water. We suggest beginning your fishing trip before 10:00 a.m. The ardent fisherman normally leaves between 5:00 and 6:00 a.m. However, fishing is often better at tide change, so we will suggest the most opportune time for you to arrive at the fishing grounds so you can "catch the tide". The itinerary that we have provided is a one-day six hour trip. Most trips will differ only in the allotted time of fishing to fit your needs, and all trips can be duplicated for multiple-day trips. - Meetup: Guests normally meet their guides at the Alaska Fish House for a hot cup of coffee and a discussion of the day of fishing. The Alaska Fish House is located in the center of the marina where we outfit and depart for the fishing grounds. - Outfitting & licensing: Upon arrival at our marina, your guide will collect the state fee your for fishing license. Cook Your Catch Wilderness Dining
This is a bottom fish excursion where you will be fishing at depths of 100-300 feet for Rockfish and Cod. The excursion is operated in a 23ft open air skiff that accommodates a maximum of 6 passengers. After fishing for 3-4 hours, your party will arrive at our remote campsite where you will have a meal featuring your catch of the day. Guests are also served our delicious blueberry-rhubarb bread pudding for dessert, which is also prepared at camp. We provide tea, coffee, water sodas, a covered area to relax and iconic campfires. Our private campsite allows you to explore Ketchikan’s old growth forest and rocky beaches before and after your meal, giving you the chance to soak in the beauty of Alaska’s wilderness. Our culinary adventures give you a taste of all we have to offer. Enjoy a genuine Alaskan tradition as you have your catch prepared for you by our chef on a wilderness beach, at sea, or at a private table at the Alaska Fish House. 1) Cook Your Catch: Wilderness Dining Baranof Excursions has a remote campsite on a wilderness beach south of Ketchikan, ready for your arrival with your fresh-caught fish. Pull up with your guide in one of our boats, and step ashore to meet our campsite host. In just a few short minutes, we’ll quickly cook up a fresh bouillabaisse featuring your catch for you to enjoy in the comfort of a crackling beach fire, accompanied by beautiful views of the rainforest and the wild, rocky shoreline of our private beach. 2) Cook Your Catch: Private Dining At The Alaska Fish House On arrival back to town, our guides will lay out your fish at our fish cleaning station and help you determine which fish you want to eat and how to prepare it to best meet your culinary desires. Once you’ve made your choice, we’ll run your fresh catch-up to our chefs in the Alaska Fish House. By the time, you’re done taking your raingear off, washing your hands, and getting back into your civilian clothes, we’ll have a private table ready for you in our rustic-style dining room, and an expertly prepared meal on its way. Once you’ve settled at your table, enjoy a cold, Alaskan-brewed Denali beer or a glass of wine to accompany your meal and give yourself the chance to relax into an authentic Southeast Alaskan dining experience. Ketchikan Salmon Fishing
Spend the day Salmon fishing in the pristine Alaskan wilderness! This comprehensive fishing experience is intended for the avid fisherman who wants to learn the art of salmon fishing. Our private marina is located in downtown Ketchikan, so you'll have a full day to learn the best techniques for catching the Pacific salmon of Southeast Alaska. With this custom experience—limited to four guests at a time—every fisherman has the benefit of fishing their own rod. After a day of trolling, jigging, and mooching, you'll know the difference between a spoon and a hoochie, as well as the best way to catch whatever species is in season; typically king, coho, and/or pink salmon. Best of all, whatever you catch is yours to keep. In fact, our local processor will flash freeze it and send it straight to your door! The challenge with salmon fishing in Alaska is that it is completely reliant on the annual return of the salmon from the Gulf of Alaska to the inside waters. Accordingly, each of Alaska's five species of salmon has a limited number of days in which they are best available for exceptional fishing. Our Salmon Fishing excursion is based on the approach of local Alaskans. We leave the dock well informed as to what was working the day before to catch salmon: Where are they? How deep are they? What bait or flashers are working? Not only do we come fully prepared, we also have the time to pursue halibut and bottom fish if the bite is not on for salmon, or a particular group has limited-out. During the peak of the salmon run, from June 15th to August 15th, you will have the best chance of catching multiple species of salmon. After spending most of their lives unraveling the mysteries of salmon fishing, our fishing guides have the skills, knowledge, and equipment you will need to catch Alaska's salmon. Whether this is your first catch or one of many, your captain will make recommendations for your group as to what species and techniques are likely to prove successful on a given day. * FISHING ITINERARIES: 1) If You Are Visiting Ketchikan By Cruise Ship: We suggest beginning the excursion thirty minutes after your ship is scheduled to arrive in Ketchikan. The following timeline is for a six-hour Ketchikan fishing adventure. - Meetup: Your guide, or one of our crew, will greet you at the pier and escort you to our downtown marina and outfitting room. Look for a sign with your tour name on it. - Outfitting & licensing: Upon arrival at our marina, your guide will collect the state fee for your fishing license. While we fill out your licensing information, you'll start to look like a local as we outfit you with waterproof boots, bib overalls, hooded jackets, hats, and gloves. Fully prepared, you'll head for the boat. - Running to the fishing grounds: Our location in the heart of Downtown Ketchikan allows for a short boat ride to the rich salmon fishing grounds south of Ketchikan. Depending on the area your guide chooses to fish the ride to your fishing area is 10 to 20 minutes from the marina. Our guides customize your journey depending on the season, tides, and weather conditions. During this ride guests frequently spy eagles, seals, whales, spawning salmon, and even black bears. You may take as many photographs as you wish, or simply sit back and soak it all in. - Fishing: On board our vessels designed and outfitted specifically for salmon fishing you will spend the next few hours trolling or mooching, or trolling for King, Coho, Pink Salmon, and Halibut. Your seasoned guide will teach you the secrets of using a flasher, a hoochie, or a jig to lure in your salmon. You will enjoy the thrill of fighting your fish, netting it, and bringing it home to enjoy. - Return to the marina Make your way back to the marina enjoying another breathtaking ride. Upon arrival you will remove your fishing gear and your guide will ensure that you make it back to your ship in a timely fashion. If you choose to ship your fish home or have it smoked, a simple form needs filled out, and we will process your fish for shipping to arrive on the date of your choice. 2) If You Are Overnighting In Ketchikan: For those travelers who arrive in Ketchikan by the State ferry or Alaska Airlines, and are staying longer than one day, we can arrange for multiple days on the water. We suggest beginning your fishing trip before 10:00 a.m. The ardent fisherman normally leaves between 5:00 and 6:00 a.m. However, fishing is often better at tide change, so we will suggest the most opportune time for you to arrive at the fishing grounds so you can "catch the tide". The itinerary that we have provided is a one-day six hour trip. Most trips will differ only in the allotted time of fishing to fit your needs, and all trips can be duplicated for multiple-day trips. - Meetup: Guests normally meet their guides at the Alaska Fish House for a hot cup of coffee and a discussion of the day of fishing. The Alaska Fish House is located in the center of the marina where we outfit and depart for the fishing grounds. - Outfitting & licensing: Upon arrival at our marina, your guide will collect the state fee your for fishing license. While we fill out your licensing information, you'll start to look like a local as we outfit you with waterproof boots, bib overalls, hooded jackets, hats, and gloves. To ship your fish home, or have it smoked, a simple form needs filled out, and we will process your fish for shipping on the date of your choice. We can also package your fish to return home with you on Alaska Airlines if you are leaving by jet.

You may take as many photographs as you wish, or simply sit back and soak it all in. - Hunting for halibut Leave the tourists behind and venture into more secluded locations for authentic bottom fishing. You'll fish the way the locals do, complete with the quiet anticipation of jigging to the exhilaration of landing your Halibut. We won't pack our guests around a few shared poles; instead, we'll outfit each of you with a rod and tackle. And one of the best parts? The majority of our guests catch fish! - Return to the marina Make your way back to the marina while enjoying another breathtaking ride.
