The Music Soap Series: connecting soap with music.

Just as the music of the Renaissance emerged from the Medieval, I wanted the soap to interweave characteristics of the first soap into the development of the second. There was a great expansion of colour and intensity in art during this time, so I gravitated towards adding in carmine and orchid, as well as giving the layers of maya gold from the Medieval a more prominent role. The deep azure melded into a vivid teal, and the entire soap was poured in a style known as the Clyde slide, which involves pouring layers of soap into one container, and then pouring the full batch into the mold, resulting in a multi-dimensional swirl pattern with great depth and ever-changing throughout. I also wanted to keep the rich scent tones of the first soap, but to bring it into a warmer and more centered fragrance. "Comfort and Joy" met this beautifully with rich, enveloping tones of apple, nectar, berry, orange and cinnamon that wrap around you and draw you in.

The Renaissance time period (1400-1600) was moving out of monophony and polyphony, and starting to find use of harmony in the musical texture. Music was still being composed in modes, but there was a development and use of scales, as well as an increase in instrumentation. One of my favorite developments of this time period was the chorale and an explosion of complex vocal music, especially acapella music.
