About the Brand: The Great Alaskan Bowl Company
Back in the 1800s, the demand for large, wooden bowls for making bread and mixing and serving food kept many bowl mills in operation. However, since then the wide-scale demand for these types of bowls has diminished, leaving The Great Alaskan Bowl Company is one of only a few mills in the country that still manufactures these unique bowls, using equipment designed from the machinery that was developed over 100 years ago.
By cutting only two to five 13" or larger trees per acre, The Great Alaskan Bowl Company is a responsible steward of the forest. This process promotes a healthier forest by allowing sunlight to reach the smaller, developing trees. The freshly cut green logs (40% - 60% moisture content) are cut into lengths the width of the tree and split for turning. This process allows us to create up to eight one-pieces, solid birch, hardwood bowls, ranging from 22" to 7" in diameter—all from a single split length.

Glacial Fjord Bicycle Tour
We depart town by van and head to our starting point along the Lutak Inlet. As you pedal along the flat, paved road carved into the steep-walled fjord, you might spot bald eagles, salmon, whales, sea lions, seals, and even bears. We ride to the end of the inlet where the Chilkoot River joins the ocean and salmon congregate for their ancient quest to reach the spawning grounds. We continue riding along the river to Chilkoot Lake, a 3-mile long lake surrounded by glaciated mountain peaks. Take in the gorgeous views across the emerald lake, surrounded by glaciers, waterfalls, and jagged mountain peaks. This is a wonderful way to combine fresh Alaskan air and mild exercise in beautiful Haines, Alaska. E-Bikes are available for this tour. Guests may choose to use a Trek Verve+ 2 pedal-assist bike for this ride.
1/2 Day Walk And Wade Flyfishing Trip
Our summer single 1/2 day float & wade trips take place up in the town of Willow, AK, a beautiful and scenic hour and fifteen minute drive north of Anchorage. We are the closest consistent fishing location to Anchorage! We have taken our knowledge & experience that comes with multi-day Alaska fishing trips and focused that talent into our 1/2 day Alaskan fishing adventure! Since our guides are local fisherman first we know when & where to catch fish on the Alaskan road system. With a beautiful drive just an hour and fifteen minutes north of Anchorage we have access to some of the best fishing in the state no bush plane needed! We will meet you at a local Willow favorite coffee spot- Lead Dog Espresso - and get you geared up for your trip. From there you will follow your guide to the first spot of water you will be fishing. These trips are great for guests of all ages and skill levels! We've taken folks as young as 4 and as old as 94 out on our trips! Once you're at the river, your guide will chat with you about your experience level and if needed do a hands on fly fishing 101to get even the most novice angler ready to expertly land some fish. After the fly fishing 101 you'll head down to the river and start casting and catching! Depending on how a certain area of water is fishing, the guide may have you follow them in your vehicle to another spot on the river. From rainbows to salmon we can show you how to handle some of Alaska's best water in a day! Our trips can begin as early as mid to late May and run through September 30th & just like anything in Alaska are at mother nature's whim. The rivers we guide on are the tributaries of the Susitna river systems. Based on which rivers are fishing the best, FishHound will supply our customers with the fishing gear they need (license's & parking fees excluded) from quality waders & boots to rods, reels, line & even flies at no additional charge! We realize that most folks who are doing these style of trips may be new to it & would have no idea what to bring, so we take the guess work out of it- right down to having back-up ponchos and rain gear for our guests.
