Description

All ear wires and jewelry findings are made with sterling silver.

All rocks have been hand collected by artist from various beaches along the Kenai Peninsula, from Homer to Ninlichik Alaska.

Once collected they are sorted for shape and size and are always in their natural form.

Please be aware since Mother Nature makes each rock perfectly different, each rock will vary slightly in size and color, making each piece unique.

Rock dimensions: 1/2″-3/4″

About Loey Gi’ Stayden

The inspiration for Alaska Rocks jewelry occurred while emptying my pocketful of rocks, gathered during a hike. Taking an object and being able to shed a different light on it, is one of my passions. Giving a value that was not there or simply being able to illuminate subtleties that often times are over-looked can be found in most of my work. Taking these rocks out of their natural environment allows them to be an unlikely focal point. I enjoy the challenge of trying to pair complimentary rocks together, then incorporating them in a design that reveals their simplistic beauty yielding truly unique pieces. The fundamental beauty of the natural world is an endless source for my artistic expression. Many experiences have shaped my creative vision, from graduating with an art degree from the University of Alaska to extensive world travel. I feel the more I am exposed to the world, the more questions arise giving me a larger foundation for my creative juices to flow. The challenge of having an idea and being able to make it a reality outside of my mind fills me with a sense of deep accomplishment.

Laughton Glacier Snowshoe Expedition

This trip combines a scenic rail journey aboard the historic White Pass & Yukon Route Railway with a wilderness snowshoe trek toward the magnificent Laughton Glacier, an adventure you won’t soon forget. You will board the train for a nearly one-hour scenic journey filled with spectacular waterfalls, rushing rivers, jagged mountain peaks and complemented by Klondike Gold Rush history. At Glacier Station, guides will outfit you with snowshoes and other gear before you begin a fully guided and narrated three- to five-mile round trip snowshoe hike. Revel in the clean mountain air, amidst the surreal beauty of an old-growth forest. The magnificent, snow-blanketed, sub-alpine rainforest valley is home to an abundance of moose, bear, mountain goats and other wild animals. This spectacular trail winds along the raging Skagway River, where you will take memorable photos before continuing toward a smaller valley containing the Laughton Glacier. The canopy opens as you leave the forest and reach a panoramic viewpoint known as “the lookout”. This is where you can take a break as well as photos while enjoying the breathtaking views of Alaska’s winter wonderland in the spring. From here, some may choose to continue a ways toward the majestic Laughton Glacier, while others may make this the apex of the hike. Whatever you choose, you’ll be invigorated by the raw beauty of the Alaskan wilds and be offered hot drinks by your guides. Upon your return to the trailhead, you will be greeted with our traditional “Bush Buffet”, complete with snacks and assorted beverages. Finally, enjoy a relaxing train ride back to Skagway on “The Scenic Railway of the World.” With no more than six guests per guide, you can expect exceptional customer service.
