Caibou Antler Ulu With Damascus Blade

Description

Did you know that the world record time for processing a whole salmon using an ulu is 27 seconds!

Enjoy this popular Alaskan utensil made of shed caribou antler handle. Comes with caribou ulu stand.

The ulu is a traditional knife used by Alaska Natives for the last 4,000 years. Originally, the blades were made of jade, slate or bone.

This particular ulu is made with Damascus 440 surgical steel, a type of steel easily recognizable by its wavy patterned design. Aside from its sleek look and beautiful aesthetics, Damascus steel is highly valued as it is hard and flexible while maintaining a sharp edge. Traditional weapons forged from Damascus steel were far superior to those formed from just iron.

The Damascus steel blade should be treated as any other fine cutlery and washed by hand with warm soapy water and dried promptly.

The handle is made of naturally shed caribou antler. Caribou shed their antlers each fall and regrow them each spring. Caribou are the only members of the deer family in which both males and females grow antlers.

A quality addition to any professional knife collection and a great gift to anyone who spends time in the kitchen.

Made in Alaska.
