Day in Talkeetna Tour
The town of Talkeetna is one of the best keep secrets in Alaska. Charming and full of high-adventure for every taste!* Depart Anchorage and drive north through the community of Wasilla and the Matanuska Valley on your way to Talkeetna. Weather permitting you could see Mount Denali on the way to Talkeetna. Your knowledgeable driver/Alaskan guide will offer tour commentary along the way. Arriving in Talkeetna you will take a step back in time. The town of Talkeetna is one of the best keep secrets in Alaska. Many of its buildings date back to the early 1900's and most are listed in the National Historic Register. Here, you can take a stroll through Downtown Talkeetna at your own pace. Take a picture in front of the “Welcome to Beautiful Downtown Talkeetna” sign at the beginning of Main Street or walk to the end of Main Street which drops you right down to the Talkeetna River. Skip some rocks, take a load off, and on a clear day soak in the panoramic view of the Alaska Range. Go explore Talkeetna’s little shops (lots of art, lots of gifts). Sit down in the Village Park with an Alaska-sized ice cream or coffee treat and watch people go by. Have a snack or a big meal at one of the eateries. While in Talkeetna, you also have optional activities (arranged separately.) We have listed two of the most popular activities offered here. Choose from an amazing scenic flight over the Alaska Range and Denali or a guided ATV Tour to a historic homestead. #1 Optional Denali & Alaska Range Scenic Flight As your flight departs Talkeetna, you begin to see how the last ice age has shaped the land. Moments later, you enter a world of rugged high mountain peaks and wide glacier filled valleys. You take and fly within six miles of Denali’s summit. Touch down for a glacier landing at the Sheldon Amphitheater on Ruth Glacier. Enjoy the stillness of the mountains broken only by the far off rumble of distant rock and ice slides. Step out on the glacier and put your footprints in the snow. As you stand among the granite peaks, you will understand the immense scale of the mountains surrounding you. Photograph the towering peaks that surround you. Listen to the still found in the mountains. Then lift off from the glacier for your return to Talkeetna. On your return you will have time for lunch (on your own) in this quaint little town. #2 Optional ATV & Historic Homestead Tour Your other Talkeetna experience is thrilling ATV ride with a visit to a historic homestead. This ATV Wilderness Tour offers a narrated tour of Historic Talkeetna and a rare opportunity to visit an original and remote Alaskan Homestead. On this narrated Adventure, you will drive your own ATV through Beautiful Downtown Talkeetna, experience a scenic trail ride to the Historic Homestead. Enjoy a Deli Sandwich, target practice and pan for gold in Wiggle Creek. Later. we return to Talkeetna for your return trip back to Anchorage. As you travel back to Anchorage you will reflect on all the great sights you took in today! More about the optional ATV Adventure - This Alaska Wilderness Tour offers a narrated tour of Historic Talkeetna and a rare opportunity to visit an original and remote Alaskan Homestead. - Your adventure starts as you drive your own ATV to the Talkeetna Village Airstrip. Here you will learn some of the highlights and lore of Historic Talkeetna. - We depart Talkeetna and cross the Talkeetna River. - We will ride five scenic miles on ATV-only trails to the historic family homestead. - This is a rare opportunity to visit an original Alaskan Homestead, view the original cabin, various implements and tools used by the early day pioneers. Your guide relates to you the hardships and challenges faced during their first winters. - Next, it is lunch at Dennis' personal cabin on Wiggle Creek at the back quarter of the homestead. After lunch, you'll have time to target practice. - The fresh air, the silent serenity of the forest and the murmur of Wiggle Creek takes you a million miles away. There is a possibility of seeing Alaska wildlife including bears, fox, moose, bald eagles and wild birds.
