Jenny Long is a self-taught dot mandala artist whose creative journey is as distinctive as the art she creates. After moving to Alaska in 2004, she immersed herself in the outdoor lifestyle and spirit of the North. With her husband, Scott, and their two children, she spent countless hours camping, fishing, boating, and building their family cabin. For nearly three decades, she also served as a public school teacher, bringing the same dedication and creativity to education that she now pours into her art. In 2020, Jenny’s life changed dramatically when she contracted Covid, which developed into Long Covid and led to her early retirement. Searching for new ways to connect with the land and experiences she loved, she discovered dot mandala art. She approached learning to paint as she has every endeavor in her adult life, with determination, imagination, and an open heart. Guided by a lifelong commitment to making connections and leaving the world a better place, Jenny’s art is an extension of her values. From years of volunteering, teaching, and coaching, to now adding beauty through her art and dot art classes she strives to inspire connection and joy. Her unique pieces reflect Alaska’s vast wilderness and wildlife. Each of her ornaments is finished with repurposed fishing line, most used by Jenny’s family in Alaskan waters, creating a meaningful connection between her art, her story, and the land that inspires it.f Through her small business, DotalongAK, Jenny shares her art with Alaskans, wildlife enthusiasts, and the visitors who travel to the state each year.
