Description

This is the fourth book in the Aunt Phil's Trunk Alaska history series, which has won multiple awards - including the gold medal for best historical nonfiction from Literary Classics International. It features dozens of short stories and hundreds of historical photos from 1935 to 1960, and is suitable for ages 9 to 99!

Did you know:

• Japanese troops bombed and occupied two islands in Alaska during World War II?

• The U.S. Air Force song was written by an Alaskan?

• It took less than nine months for soldiers to build the 1,700-mile Alaska-Canada highway?

These and many more short stories fill the pages of Aunt Phil's Trunk Volume Four, along with hundreds of historical photos that bring this amazing history to life!

Volume Four features Alaska during World War II, the Cold War, and the struggle for statehood. From Eskimos guarding Alaska's coastline to Russians roaming the streets of Fairbanks to ordinary Alaskans fighting for the rights of all American citizens, this volume captures the spirit of what it waslike to live in the far north during this time period.

“I’ve been touting these books since the first volume appeared three years ago. They combine clear writing and plenty of details without getting bogged down in minutia. They include both the big stories and many lesser-known incidents. And they are densely illustrated with photographs showing what life was like in Alaska’s earlier days. It’s a great package, and it hasn’t failed yet … If you haven’t done so, take some time and open Aunt Phil’s Trunk; you’ll find plenty of treasures inside.”

– David James, Fairbanks Daily News Miner

Aunt Phil's Trunk Llc

My award-winning Aunt Phil's Trunk Alaska history series, which began in 2006, is well known for its captivating storytelling and hundreds of historical photographs. And while I originally wrote the books for history buffs, it turns out children love reading my books, too. Recently I created an Alaska studies curriculum after parents and teachers hounded me to do so. My print and online programs now are used by thousands of school children across Alaska to learn about the state we love. The Sourdough Cookery cookbook and 130-year-old sourdough starter (which originated in the gold fields of Hope, Alaska, in the 1890s with my great-grandfather) is popular around the globe, as well. (The cranberry chocolate cake recipe is one of our family favorites!) So, who am I? I'm a third-generation Alaskan who loves sharing the history of my incredible state though my books, sourdough starter, and historical presentations. And I've been blessed that Aunt Phil's Trunk has been given the Best in Anchorage Award for Education for the past several years.
