Dallas Seavey Talkeetna Dryland Dog Sledding Tour
Drive your own Alaskan Husky dog team, chariot style, through Talkeetna's boreal forest! Aaska is known for dog sled adventures during our snowy winters! Are you visiting Alaska when we don’t have snow yet, but still want to go mushing? Salmon Berry has a solution: our Dryland Dog Sled, Chariot Style tour at the homestead of five-time Iditarod Champion Dallas Seavey! This educational and fun tour departs from Anchorage before making the fully-guided drive north to Dog Sled Country. Weather permitting, our drive will offer views of Mt. Denali (formerly known as Mt. McKinley), the tallest peak in North America, towering in the distance! We’ll continue north and pass the Official Iditarod Starting Line in Willow before entering the quaint town of Talkeetna for a delicious lunch (provided)! After lunch, we embark on your training run at the homestead of Dallas Seavey, a five-time Iditarod first place Champion, top three finisher in Norway’s 2018 Finnmarksløpet, youngest Yukon Quest first place Champion, and former star of National Geographic Channel’s Ultimate Survival Alaska! Here, you will go from being a dog sled enthusiast to an experienced musher! Meet the professional Iditarod mushers/handlers of Dallas Seavey Racing and genuine Iditarod champion Alaskan Huskies! Bond with your dog team while you learn about the musher lifestyle and lingo! With your newfound knowledge and confidence you’ll be ready to mush the trails! Each two guests will share a wheeled dog chariot and dog team of Alaskan Huskies for approximately 40 minutes of your own mini expedition! Follow your musher guide into the groomed dog sled trails of Talkeetna’s boreal forest, showcasing its beautiful colors! For the first half of your ride, you will guide your four-legged team through the birch trees! Keep an eye out and listen for local wildlife! Once you reach an opening in the forest, a photo stop is made during your unforgettable ride to pose with the canine athletes in front of the enchanting backdrop! Take in the brisk air and alternate from standing to riding on the passenger bench! The final half of mushing will duplicate the Iditarod trail where you will visit replica of official Iditarod checkpoints and other highlights of “The Last Great Race on Earth” until you cross the burled arch Finish Line! During the total 6 miles, there will be a lead musher guiding and tail musher following for quality, safety, and comfort during your mush – both guiding the dogs and riding in the chariot! Complete your dog sled experience toward the kennel for a continued tour of the homestead. Alaskan Huskies are powerful athletes that are known for their affectionate, loyal, playful personalities — and the puppies are no different! Try to keep up with the lively future Iditarod racing young huskies during your puppy nature walk in a field of poppies! Make sure to take photos with the future Iditarod Champions before they’re famous! Conclude the thrills and adventures of your tour with transportation back to your Anchorage or Talkeetna hotel! Complimentary snacks and Alaska glacier wellness water are available in the sprinter van throughout the tour. *Please note, participants must be 16 years or older to mush their own sled.
