Description
Globally, there are 8 major flyways in the world. 4 of them converge in Alaska, bringing billions of birds to the north for the summer. Over 250 migratory species share the endless sunlight and abundant food with 125 more species of birds who make Alaska their year-round home.
This collection features portraits from the picture book Alaska is for the birds!
Eight 5 x 7 blank cards feature Evon's linocut bird portraits from the new book: Alaska is for the Birds!: Great Horned Owl, Tufted Puffin, Belted Kingfisher, and Arctic Tern.
Puffins are built more for swimming underwater than for flying, with their short wings and webbed feet. The pelagic birds spend two-thirds of the year out in the open ocean, returning to land in the summer to nest and raise their chicks.
The Belted Kingfisher - you know it's a she by the rusty red flash- a colorful band that she wears like a sash.
Arctic Turns fly from the top of the globe to the bottom and back again, every single year. It's the longest migration of any animal on earth.
Alaskan Great Horned Owl pairs start house hunting as early as January. They don't build their own nests, so this early timing gives them the best selection of empty "pre-owned" nests to choose from. While they are looking for just the right spot, owl pairs perform hooting duets that can last up to an hour.
Two cards each of the four images.
Printed in the USA on recycled paper
Includes 8 envelopes made of recycled paper
Packed in a recloseable chip board box.
