About us
Sail Northwest LLC was formed in 2017 when Brendan purchased Hopscotch. Sail Northwest is our company that owns Hopscotch, and provides the structure for our business. We are registered to do business in Washington State, and Alaska. For the first couple of years we operated out of the rugged and Beautiful San Juan Islands in Washington State. The last few years we have returned to Brendan’s favorite place, Southeast Alaska, and plan on being here for many seasons to come!
Captain Brendan first came to Skagway in 2010, and for an unusual reason… He’d heard that Skagway was windy, and it certainly is!
When not sailing, Brendan loves to Kiteboard and Wingsurf, and generally play in the wind. There’s not a prettier, windier place that we’ve found than Skagway. Although he came for the wind and water, he quickly fell in love with everything else this amazing place has to offer…the mountains, the hiking, and perhaps most of all, the people that call this place home. You’ll be hard pressed to find a more welcoming, interesting, and fun community anywhere.
Join us for a magical day of adventure, learning, and relaxing aboard Hopscotch, our 50’ sloop. Let us show you why we fell in love with this magical place at the very end of the Inside Passage.
What we'll do
SV Hopscotch is our pride and joy! She is 50 ft of adventure, love, sweat, and (occasionally) tears! One thing that makes Hopscotch unique is that she is foreign built (in France), however she has Jones Act Waivers to operate in the waters of Washington State and Alaska. She is a USCG documented vessel, ported out of Skagway, Alaska, and can take up to 6 guests at one time along with crew. Hopscotch is rated as an Ocean Going Vessel (she has crossed the Atlantic) and we take her upkeep and maintenance extremely seriously. We operate Hopscotch in remote areas, and safety is our top priority.
One unique thing about your Hopscotch crew is that they all have their US Coast Guard Captains License. As required by the Coast Guard, they are also all trained in CPR/First Aid, and participate in a Random Drug Testing Program.
Hopscotch operates with a Captain (Always Brendan) and a Chef (we have three chefs that rotate: Branden, Ben, and Bri).
•”Grab the helm, hoist the main!” and feel the power! We encourage our guests to get as involved in the operation of Hopscotch as they would like, or just sit back and relax, it’s up to you!
• Sail the deepest, longest, and prettiest fjord in North America.
•Learn the history of Skagway and the Lynn Canal (from a maritime perspective!)
• Amazing scenery: including wildlife, and gigantic waterfalls.
• Warm drinks, blankets, and all the necessary treats to make your Alaskan Sailing adventure cozy, safe, and wonderful no matter the weather!

*Our Tours are 2.5 hours long. Sailing is very dependent on the weather, but we try to sail as much as possible! Skagway is a VERY windy place, and we want to make sure your ride is comfortable and enjoyable!
* Maximum of 6 guests
- We take a maximum of 6 guests on board, so join us solo or bring your friends! We also offer private trips for groups of 2-6, please inquire.
* Hopscotch has 4 heads (bathrooms) on board, a galley (we make sure to always have tasty treats, warm drinks, and plenty of comfy places to enjoy the magical ride).

- For safety reasons we ask that all guests are at least 10 years old.

*What you DO need to bring:
- We ask that you bring a jacket and warm clothes. Even on the most gorgeous Alaskan Day, the wind on the water can be chilly. We have plenty of space to store any clothing you wish to stow.
- We have plenty of snacks and drinks, but you are welcome to bring any food or drinks you wish to consume on board.
-After your charter is booked We'll ask your dietary requirements and any special requests you may have to make your culinary journey wonderful. We can accommodate most dietary needs, but please keep in mind we are a relatively small vessel with limited space for storing and preparing meals
-Hopscotch is a 50' Beneteau Oceanis. Comfort abounds on this beauty. She is 50ft. long with a beamy width of 15.5ft. She has four (three of which are available for guests, the chef gets the other one!) staterooms, each with their own heads, in addition to a bunk room for the crew (up forward for the captain!). Her large galley is a joy to create in. Each cabin boasts very comfy mattresses, and linens, pillows, towels and blankets. There are always extra essentials on board for your comfort. The bathrooms (heads) are sanitized and stocked with hand soaps, toilet paper, hot water for showers. Please not that this is a boat, and that means “Compromise”. The bathrooms are not large, but large enough to do what you need! Our hot water comes from the engine running. So if you shower every morning, you’ll want to wait until we are underway for about 30 minutes.
-Accommodations: You will find private cabins each with their own heads, luxurious linens and cozy comforters. The crew has private quarters and bath. The main saloon is large with lots of space for sharing great cuisine and playing a game or two. The galley is set up with lots of room for preparing great meals. The cockpit is large with a table, a dodger to keep out the wind, and a bimini to protect you from the hot sun.
