Takshanuk ATV Tour from Haines
When you arrive at the trail head your knowledgeable guide will instruct your family’s driver on how to operate the Kawasaki Mules. Don’t want to drive? No problem! We can accommodate those who want to ride along and enjoy the views! The mules are equipped with convertible tops for those traditional Southeast Alaska days and your guide can provide you with blankets, gloves and rain ponchos if necessary. Start your journey up the trail and enjoy the lush forest and scenic views peeking through the trees. The first mile of trail has 17 switchbacks and gains the most elevation, starting at sea level and taking you to 1,100 feet in elevation for your first stop at our exclusive mountain lodge. Here you’ll take in the breathtaking views of the beautiful Lynn Canal and Coastal mountain range. You’ll also be treated to fresh baked cookies straight out of the oven along with coffee, hot chocolate, tea and lemonade. After the lodge you’ll continue on the trail for another scenic mile, passing cascading waterfalls and crossing crystal clear mountain streams. Your guide will make a stop at a scenic alpine lake to take in the views and scan the mountain side for wildlife. The natural lake is fed by cascading waterfalls down the backside of Mt. Ripinsky. When the season is right you can pick wild Alaskan blueberries and salmon berries that are abundant in this area. As you continue to the end of the trail at 1,500 feet, be prepared to catch your breath for the stunning vista of Chilkoot Lake and the Lutak inlet. A gorgeous alpine meadow awaits those who wish to take a short hike up the hillside to enjoy the wildflowers that soak up the sunshine at this higher elevation. The return portion of your tour will take you back to our exclusive lodge where you will be served a deliciously prepared beer-battered halibut and roasted chicken meal. Vegetarian meals and special dietary requests are available with a 24-hour notice. After this fantastic homemade meal and time to relax in the lodge, you will make your way back to the trail head. For those who took the Takshanuk Trail bus to the trail head, your return trip to town will include a scenic tour of Haines and Fort William H. Seward, the first permanent army base in Alaska.
Glacial Fjord Bicycle Tour
We depart town by van and head to our starting point along the Lutak Inlet. As you pedal along the flat, paved road carved into the steep-walled fjord, you might spot bald eagles, salmon, whales, sea lions, seals, and even bears. We ride to the end of the inlet where the Chilkoot River joins the ocean and salmon congregate for their ancient quest to reach the spawning grounds. We continue riding along the river to Chilkoot Lake, a 3-mile long lake surrounded by glaciated mountain peaks. Take in the gorgeous views across the emerald lake, surrounded by glaciers, waterfalls, and jagged mountain peaks. This is a wonderful way to combine fresh Alaskan air and mild exercise in beautiful Haines, Alaska. E-Bikes are available for this tour. Guests may choose to use a Trek Verve+ 2 pedal-assist bike for this ride.
Haines Chilkat E-Bike Adventure
Visit the Mud Flats of the glacially fed Chilkat Valley on this 7-mile E-bike ride. We depart the bike shop and ride up the hill into the historic Fort Seward. After exploring and discussing this recent history, we ride down to the mud flats of the Chilkat Valley. Here you can enjoy a walk to along the shore and experience the serenity of the glacial valley breeze. You may witness bald eagles, coastal brown bears and even marine mammals fishing for salmon. We ride back to town through a rainforest neighborhood where locals have built their own unique homesteads. Before heading back to the shop, we’ll stop at a view point across the harbor where you can see the town and the Cathedral Mountains towering above.
Haines Bike, Hike & Brew
See the sites in beautiful Haines, Alaska, followed by a sampling of a locally brewed beer! We meet at our bike shop for bike fitting and orientation. From our shop, it’s a scenic 2-mile coastal ride to the Battery Point trailhead. We’ll hike a mile and a half through the spruce, hemlock, and cottonwood rainforest environment on a well-maintained trail to the beach at Battery Point. This is a great place to spot seals, sea lions, whales, and many types of birds. We’ll hike back out to our bikes and ride along the waterfront into town, stopping at a great photo spot. From there, we bike up to the Haines Brewing Company to sample their locally crafted beers (root beer and tea are also available.) The Haines Brewing Company occupies a state-of-the-art building on Main St. in downtown Haines. We’ll stop in and sample three 5 oz. pours of their locally crafted beers. After tasting we’ll ride the final mile back to our bike shop to finish the tour. E-Bikes are available for this tour. Guests can choose to use a Trek Verve+ 2 E-Bike for the riding portion of this tour.
Spirit Art Woodcarving Class
Participants will start by choosing a piece of cottonwood bark from Tresham's collection, and then start to visualize what image will be realized from it. Tresham will help guide you through the design process and then introduce woodcarving principles using hand carving tools. Tresham will help guide you through each step in the process of revealing your spirit image. When the carving is finished, you will sand it and put a transparent finish on it that will bring out the color and grain. You get to take the finished carving with you when you go.
Chilkat Bald Eagle Preserve Rafting - Departs from Haines
Treat yourself to a small group rafting and scenic driving tour through the famous Chilkat Bald Eagle Preserve. Meet your expert guide and enjoy a riverside drive along the Haines Highway. The drive is incredibly scenic: glacier-clad mountains thrust to the sky, colorful wildflowers line the road, green riverside channels provide habitat for moose, bear and trumpeter swans. The highway was declared a National Scenic Byway in 2009. Arrive at the river in the heart of the Chilkat Bald Eagle Preserve, approximately 45 minutes away. Don your life jackets, listen to your guide’s safety talk, board the raft and leave the road and civilization behind. You are immersed in the Alaskan wilderness, floating the silent river channels. This is a scenic float trip (no whitewater) through the home of the largest bald eagle congregation in the world. Thousands of bald eagles travel here to feed on salmon in the fall and winter. In the summer months, a healthy resident population of bald eagles lives along the river. Your expert guide will push the raft along, explaining the intricate balance of nature that makes this a unique and special place. You do not have to paddle; your hands are free for your camera and binoculars. Keep an eye out for other wildlife besides bald eagles. ……moose, otters, brown and black bear, and even wolves, call this Preserve their home. You will spend approximately one and one half hours floating the river. After rafting, your guide will select a scenic spot to enjoy a picnic lunch on your way back to Haines and/or back to your ship in Skagway.
Chilkat Photography Tour- Haines Departure
On this fun trip you will focus on photographing the stunning scenery of the Chilkat Valley. Cradled at the base of the Chilkat Peninsula, flanked by the Lynn Fjord and Chilkat River, Haines is filled with natural wonders. Your expert photography guide will assist you in capturing the best of the Chilkat Valley’s unique attractions. In Haines, and meet your professional photography guide. Your guide will select his favorite locations and provide you with ample time to set up the best shots. Depending on the lighting and weather, different locations in the Chilkat Valley boast specific photographic highlights. May, June, and July feature wildflowers and eagles. Beginning in August, pink salmon—the smallest and most abundant of the Pacific salmon varieties—begin their run up the Chilkoot River to spawn. This is the best opportunity to see brown bear as they are often witnessed feeding along the banks of the river. When bears are present, every effort will be made to give you safe bear viewing and photography. The theme is flexibility, fun and learning rather than adherence to a rigid schedule. Even a simple point-and-shoot camera will work. But by all means, bring all your photo gear. The tour includes a boxed lunch so that you can eat when you want to and focus on getting the shots that you desire. You’ll return to Skagway via shuttle catamaran.

Chilkoot Lake Bike & Paddle
Combine two outstanding activities on a 12-mile bike ride along a glacially carved fjord followed by kayaking across Chilkoot Lake! Head out from Haines by bicycle on a winding, paved road on the shores of the Lutak Inlet and take in the dramatic view of the fjord waters where whales, seals, and sea lions can be seen. We'll continue up the Chilkoot River, following the path of the spawning salmon where brown bears are frequently seen. From here, we’ll enjoy a picnic lunch. After lunch, we'll get fitted for our kayak portion of the tour. We'll kayak the emerald waters of the vast lake which is uncrowded and surrounded by breathtaking views. Waterfalls tumble from thousands of feet above, and the lush green forest touches the shoreline. We’ll end the tour by driving back into town. After a quick drive through the small town of Haines, we’ll drop you at the ferry dock.

Eagle Preserve Float (Haines Departure)
Your tour begins in Haines! Board a motorcoach for a relaxing 40-minute drive up the Haines Highway, a National Scenic Byway, to the Chilkat Bald Eagle Preserve. You’ll see the historic town of Haines and Fort William H. Seward on this narrated drive. Watch for moose and swans in the marshlands as you head up the Chilkat River Valley. At the preserve, experienced guides await to begin your rafting adventure (not whitewater). You’ll float silently down the river aboard 18′ inflatable rafts – the best way to observe eagles drawn to feed on the plentiful salmon. Bears and wolves are also frequent guests at the feast. Not only rich in wildlife, the preserve is also a place of incredible beauty, with towering mountains, hanging glaciers and lush forests. You will float past the Native village of Klukwan where the Tlingit people have lived for centuries on the bounty of this beautiful wilderness. After your float, you’ll enjoy a riverside picnic. Your tour concludes with a return ride to Haines, where you leave with a myriad of unforgettable memories. Wilderness Kayak Adventure Tour (Haines Departure)
This spectacular kayaking tour immerses you in the incredible beauty of wild Alaska! You will have the opportunity to see amazing blue glaciers, breathtaking waterfalls, and extraordinary wildlife and fauna! Join professional kayak guides for an exciting paddling adventure on the gorgeous Chilkoot Lake. This is a fantastic paddling excursion for all abilities and no experience is necessary. Your tour begins as you board a high-speed catamaran for a scenic 45-minute cruise along North America’s longest and deepest fjord to Haines. Along the way, you’ll witness spectacular views of waterfalls and ice-sculpted peaks as your guide points out marine wildlife. Upon arrival in Haines, you will board a motorcoach that will take you on a beautiful 40 minute drive to Chilkoot Lake. Once you have arrived at the water you will receive a brief safety orientation, be outfitted with flotation vest and rubber boots, and get familiarized with your sea kayak. At least the next 1.5 hours will be spent enjoying the breath-taking scenery that Alaska is famous for! While on the water, you will be surrounded with towering mountains, glaciers, rivers, and fabulous wildlife. There are frequent sightings of whales, otters, eagles, bears, and more. There will be plenty of time to enjoy the incredible scenery, take pictures of the astounding wildlife and enjoy a picnic style lunch! This is a great family experience and kids are welcome. (~ 60 minutes) – Upon arrival in Haines, restrooms will be available and you’ll meet your tour guide and driver for a breathtaking interpretive drive by the historic Fort Seward on our way to Chilkoot Lake. Along the way to the lake we’ll drive along the Lynn Fjord and the Chilkoot River which hosts a salmon run that takes place from mid-summer thru fall. (~10 minutes) – When we arrive at Chilkoot Lake you’ll have the opportunity to meet your other guides and take in the stunning views of the pristine lake. Your guides will help you get fit with a PFD (life jacket), spray skirt and paddle. You’ll then receive a thorough safety briefing and become familiar with your kayak and equipment before boarding your stable 3-person fiberglass kayak. (~90 minutes) – We will then take off on a paddle exploration of Chilkoot Lake. Chilkoot Lake is surrounded by mountains and numerous waterfalls. Salmon also end their journey from the ocean here to spawn on the sandy bottom in late-summer. The lake is well-sheltered from the wind and makes for excellent kayaking regardless of the weather conditions. (~50 minutes) – once we’ve paddled back to our dock you’ll have some free time to use the spotting scopes on our private deck to take in the views from a different perspective. We’ll then board our transportation and head down to the ocean for lunch. (~30 minutes) – At our private ocean side picnic area, where you’ll enjoy a picnic-style lunch provides great views of the Lynn Fjord in a private setting. (~60 minutes) – Once we wrap up with lunch we’ll head over to the ferry dock where you’ll have the opportunity to use the restrooms and take additional photos of Haines before enjoying the scenic ride back up the fjord to Skagway. (~15 minutes) – Upon returning to Skagway, a short walk will bring you back to our original meeting point, just a few minutes’ walk or shuttle to downtown Skagway and all three cruise ship docks.
Fjords of the Inside Passage Kayaking Tour from Haines
Paddle with knowledgeable guides just outside of Haines, Alaska along the longest and deepest Fjord in North America. Experience beautiful views and enjoy opportunities to see marine wildlife from your tandem kayak. Upon arrival to Haines you will be greeted by your professional kayak guide for the ocean kayak trip of a lifetime. Your 2 person kayaks will be set up on the beach & will be a short 5-minute walk from the ferry pier. We’ll choose from a variety of beautiful ocean paddles depending on sea conditions and weather. Your tour guides will outfit you with a PFD (personal flotation device), spray skirt & paddles. After a safety briefing and equipment introduction/fitting, you are off and paddling. You will be on the water for about 2 hours. We have seen eagles, sea lions, seals, Dall's porpoise, humpback whales or other marine wildlife along our way. Your guide is an expert naturalist and will share their extensive knowledge about the fjord, marine wildlife and local geography. We will likely stop off at a remote beach to stretch your legs and enjoy the beautiful scenery of Southeast Alaska while enjoying a picnic style lunch. In an instance where ocean conditions aren’t suitable, we’ll head to our backup location on Chilkoot Lake which is a 30-minute van ride along the Chilkoot River. This backup location is surrounded by mountains with alpine waterfalls and salmon spawning beds. Itinerary * ~15 minutes -- Your friendly guide will meet you near the Haines Cruise Ship Dock where you will have the opportunity to get to know your guide and ask any questions that you might still have about your upcoming excursion. * ~5 minutes -- You will take a short walk to the adjacent beach where your 2-person kayaks will be waiting (1/3 km). * ~20 minutes -- Your guides will help you get fit with a PFD (life jacket), spray skirt and paddle at the onset of the tour. You’ll then receive a thorough safety briefing and become familiar with your kayak and equipment before boarding your stable 2-person kayak. * ~ 120-180 minutes -- We will spend the next 2-3 hours paddling on the ocean depending on the conditions and group preferences. There will be an opportunity to stop and get out of the kayak for a picnic style lunch before paddling back to your starting point. * ~15 minutes -- After arriving back at the beach, we will take the short walk back to our meeting spot at the Haines Cruise Ship Dock.
Chilkoot Canoe Wildlife Safari Tour (Haines Departure)
After meeting your tour representative in Skagway, you'll board a high-speed catamaran for a 45-minute boat ride to the town of Haines. Upon arrival in Haines, we'll take a short tour of Fort Seward, a 30-minute drive from downtown Haines, and then head up the Lutak Inlet to the Chilkoot River Valley. The Chilkoot corridor offers incredible wildlife viewing. Brown Bears, eagles, mountain goats, and spawning salmon are common sights. Our guides are expert naturalists and enjoy sharing their love and knowledge of the Alaskan wilderness. Once at the Lake, we’ll head out onto Chilkoot Lake in stable motor-assisted Voyageur Canoes. Our Canoes are built using similar dimensions as the canoes used by trappers and gold miners at the turn of the century. Powered by either paddle or motor, this tour offers guests the opportunity to paddle in the serenity of Chilkoot Lake, while also having the advantage of relaxing and taking photographs when it’s time to take a break from paddling. We’ll be out on the water for about 2 hours and explore the inlets, coves, salmon spawning streams, and numerous waterfalls that spill off of the mountains into the lake. After enjoying the beautiful views of the lake, we’ll return to Haines and serve a picnic-style lunch at a private ocean beach location. Following lunch, we'll load up back onto the fast ferry for the return trip to Skagway. * Timings: (~50 minutes) – Your friendly guides will meet you near the Port Chilkoot Cruise Ship Dock in Haines. Before departing you’ll be able to ask any questions that you might still have about your upcoming excursion and use the restrooms before you embark on an interpretive drive through historic Fort Seward and continue to Chilkoot Lake. Along the way, we’ll drive along the breathtaking shoreline of the Lynn Fjord and the wildlife-rich Chilkoot River. (~15 minutes) – When we arrive at Chilkoot Lake you’ll have the opportunity to meet your other guides and take in the stunning views of the pristine lake. Your guides will help you get fit with a PFD (life jacket), rubber boots, and canoe paddle. You’ll then receive a thorough safety briefing and orientation before boarding the 31’ long voyageur canoe for your adventure. (~90 minutes) – We’ll spend the next hour and a half experiencing Chilkoot Lake while our stable voyageur canoes. It is an excellent way to take in the fantastic views by water and if the wind picks up or you’re ready to relax, we will use the quiet 4-stroke motor to move around. (~15 minutes) – Once back at the put-in we’ll trade your rubber boots and PFDs back in for your shoes and you’ll have time to enjoy our private deck and spotting scopes to take in the views of the lake and surrounding mountains and waterfalls one more time. (~35 minutes) – We’ll then board our transportation and head down to the ocean for lunch. (~25 minutes) – At our private ocean-side picnic area, you’ll enjoy a picnic-style lunch that provides great views of the Lynn Fjord in a private setting. (~10 minutes) – Once we wrap up with lunch, a brief trip will bring us back to our meeting point near the dock which is a short walk from downtown and nearby shops and restaurants.
Wildlife Safari & Bear Viewing Tour (Haines Departure)
Experience the natural world of Alaska with your own personal naturalist! Visit Haines and the wildlife rich corridor of the Chilkoot River. Haines is home to magnificent wildlife and breathtaking views of the natural world! With an experienced naturalist as your guide, you will see and learn about the plants and animals that make up the ‘wilds’ of Alaska. You will be met by your knowledgeable guide who will escort you to your transportation vehicle and begin your exploration of the area’s native culture, fascinating history and incredible scenery! We'll start with a narrated drive through historic Fort Seward, the first military base in Alaska. Leaving town, we will journey through the amazing Chilkoot Valley. On our journey to the Chilkoot River corridor, we take in coastal views along the longest fjord in North America, we may spot seals, sea lions, porpoise and whales feeding in these rich waters. The Chilkoot River is home to some of the best bear viewing in Alaska! The river’s huge salmon runs bring large numbers of bears every year. Situated amongst rugged glaciated peaks, it is home to numerous brown bears, mountain goats, salmon, river otters, and innumerable bald eagles. This area is a birdwatchers paradise with abundant local and migratory birds. Powerful spotting scopes or binoculars allow close-range views of mountain goats grazing in high alpine meadows and nesting eagles. After capturing images and experiencing the incredible natural beauty and wildlife of the Chilkoot River corridor, we’ll enjoy a seaside picnic of sandwiches, chips, fruit, and cookies. Following lunch, we will head to the mouth of the Chilkat River, home to the largest concentration of bald eagles in the world. Our final stop is habitat to all five species of wild Pacific salmon, drawing all of Alaska’s predators to its shores. The four ice-capped mountain ranges that surround the Chilkat River provide an unparalleled photography opportunities. A short drive back to Haines will return you to your vessel. Mount Riley Guided Hiking
Mt. Riley is the highest point on the Haines Peninsula. It is a strenuous day hike through mostly temperate rain forest. It has a gorgeous summit and several viewpoints throughout the hike. Your adventure begins at the pier where you will meet your professional hiking guide. After a narrated drive through the historic Fort Seward, we’ll continue on for about 15 minutes along the Haines Peninsula to the trailhead for Mt. Riley. Along the way, your guide will tell you about the history and geography of Haines. It is a beautiful drive with many scenic photo opportunities. Once at the trailhead, the hike begins over rolling terrain through temperate rainforest. After about ¼ mile, we start to gain elevation as we make our way up switchbacks through the forest. Throughout the hike, your knowledgeable naturalist guide will talk about the flora and fauna of the region. Depending on the exact route the total hiking distance is between 5-8 miles and the elevation gain is approximately 1,500ft to the summit, which is at 1,760ft. Throughout the hike we’ll enjoy some snacks and water on our way to the summit, which boasts a fantastic 360-degree view of the Lynn Fjord and beyond. We’ll stop along the way for a picnic lunch, after which, we may elect to hike down the opposite side of the mountain towards the east side of the peninsula and descend towards Battery Point. After a stop at the view point of the beautiful beach of Kelgaya and Battery Point, the last mile leads us to the Battery Point trailhead where we’ll get picked up and return to the pier. Guests should bring a small pack with extra layers. Sturdy hiking shoes are appropriate. Dress for changing weather as conditions can change quickly in Alaska. Bring a rain jacket, and extra layer and don’t forget your camera! Itinerary * ~ 10 minutes – Your friendly guides will meet you near the Port Chilkoot Cruise Ship Dock in Haines. Riley trailhead. * ~10 minutes – At the trailhead your guide will give you a thorough safety briefing and orientation before we hit the trail. * ~2.5 hours – From the trailhead we’ll hike up Mt. Riley stopping along the way for lunch. Your expert guide will share their knowledge of the native flora and fauna and the unique geological history of the area. Enjoy plenty of photo opportunities throughout the hike. * ~2.5 hours – We’ll continue from sweeping vistas on the summit of Mt. Riley down to the east side of the peninsula along the shores of the Lynn Fjord past Battery Point and back to the trailhead. * ~20 minutes – A short drive will bring us back to our meeting point near the Port Chilkoot dock and a short walk from downtown Haines and many shops and restaurants.

Chilkat Inlet Coastal Hike
Duration- 5 hours Enjoy glacier, mountain and ocean views of Southeast Alaska on this remote coastal hike. Knowledgeable guides enjoy sharing their love for Alaska's flora & fauna. Overview Join this spectacular hiking adventure that immerses you in the remote beauty of Southeast Alaska, where you will be surrounded with amazing mountain, glacier, and ocean views. At the start of your tour you will be greeted by your professional hiking guide for a remote coastal hike along the Chilkat Inlet. We’ll drive for about 30 minutes along the Haines Peninsula to Chilkat State Park. Along the way, your guide will tell you about the history and geography of small town Haines, Alaska. It is a beautiful drive with many scenic photo opportunities. Once at the trailhead, the hike begins over rolling terrain through temperate rainforest. Your knowledgeable, naturalist guide will talk about the flora and fauna of the region. The trail is slightly rolling as we make our way towards Moose Meadows, aptly named for the occasional moose seen grazing along the seaside. As we step out onto the beach, we are treated with magnificent glacier views across the fjord. The total hiking distance is about 3-5 miles depending on the group and weather conditions. The trail rises about 100 feet total in elevation. The trail is out and back, so depending on the pace of the group, we may continue south along the coast of the peninsula. We’ll stop along the way for a picnic lunch with a fantastic view. After lunch, we’ll return back through Moose Meadows and make our way back to the pier in Haines. Dress for changing weather as conditions can change quickly in Alaska. Bring a rain jacket, and extra layer. Don’t forget your camera! Come see the amazing mountain and ocean views of Southeast Alaska on this fabulous coastal hike. Watch for such wildlife as eagles, whales, seals, and bears as you trek over terrain ranging from old growth forest to beachfront trails. Join this spectacular hiking adventure that immerses you in the incredible beauty of Southeast Alaska, where you will be surrounded with amazing mountain and ocean views. Your adventure begins with a fascinating driving tour of the town, including Fort Seward National Historic Landmark and the parade grounds. Your guide will regale you with the interesting history and culture of the Haines area including the local gold rush and chronicles of the Native Tlingits. From the trailhead, spend the next 2.5 to 3 hours hiking, surrounded by views of towering, snow-capped mountains and Lynn Canal. Your naturalist guide will share his/her knowledge of the area’s flora and fauna, and the amazing glacial history of Alaska. You may see eagles, waterfowl, whales, seals, bears and moose. Each group is outfitted with binoculars to maximize your opportunities to see up-close the wildlife and the spectacular mountain and river scenery. Midway through your hike you will take a beach break to enjoy a delicious smoked salmon snack and to take in the magnificent views. This is a great family experience and kids are welcome. Itinerary * ~10 minutes – Your friendly guides will meet you near the Port Chilkoot Cruise Ship Dock in Haines. Before departing you’ll be able to ask any questions that you might still have about your upcoming hike and you’ll have the opportunity to use the restrooms before departing. * ~15 minutes – From our meeting point we’ll take a short drive through historic Fort Seward on our way to the Kelgaya Point trailhead. * ~5 minutes - At the trailhead your guide will give you a thorough safety briefing and orientation before we hit the trail. * ~2.75 hours – We’ll hike through old growth rainforest out to the rocky beach along the Lynn Fjord. Take in the views along the hike as your expert guide shares their knowledge of the flora and fauna and unique geological history of the area. We’ll stop on the beach for rest and a locally caught smoked salmon snack. From here we’ll hike back along the trail to our starting point at the trailhead. * ~15 minutes – Back at the trailhead we’ll hop back in our van and head back to our meeting point near the Port Chilkoot dock which is a short walk from downtown Haines and many shops and restaurants.

Haines Wilderness Odyssey By Jet Boat (Haines Departure)
A Truly Unique Way to Explore! Explore the tributaries of the Chilkat River by Jet Boat. Expert captains are adept at spotting wildlife along the way, and the jet boats provide a great platform for photography! Board a bus for a 30-minute ride on the Haines Scenic Byway into the heart of the Chilkat Bald Eagle Preserve to the river dock. On your narrated drive, you will enjoy stories of the history of the valley. Where the road ends, the real Alaska begins and so does your adventure. Board your boat and part company with civilization. During your time on the Chilkat River, traverse many different channels and travel at least 20 miles into the wilderness. Your vessel is specially designed for navigation on this silt-laden river, which is the only access to a remote, roadless portion of the preserve. Your open-topped boat allows you to view and photograph the majestic scenery and animals seen in an unhindered fashion. Warm outerwear and blankets will be provided. The staff is friendly and welcoming and will entertain you with tales of their backcountry lifestyle and some "real Alaska" stories. View bald eagles and their massive nests in their natural habitat. The preserve has the best moose habitat in the valley and although there are no guarantees, the chances of spotting moose and bears are very good. Have your cameras ready in case the wildlife provides a once-in-a-lifetime photo opportunity. After returning to the dock, you'll enjoy a riverside picnic. Note: We can accommodate dietary restrictions with a minimum of 48 hours of advanced notice, including gluten-free, vegan, vegetarian, allergies, etc. Itinerary 1. 15min: Your friendly guide will meet you near the Haines Cruise Ship Dock. Before hitting the road you will have the opportunity to get to know your guide and ask any questions that you might still have about your upcoming excursion. 2. 45 min: From here, we will depart for a breathtaking drive up the Haines Scenic Byway to the jet boat launch. 3. 15 min: When you arrive at the boat launch, you’ll meet up with the boat captain and swap out your shoes for rubber river boots. Your captain will provide you with a thorough safety briefing, and you’ll don a PFD before boarding one of four boats docked at the launch. 4. 90 min: You’ll spend the next 90 minutes exploring different channels along the Chilkat River via jet boat. 5. 30 min L Upon arrival back at the boat launch, you’ll enjoy a sack lunch and refreshments. 6. 45 min: A scenic drive back down the Haines Scenic Byway will bring you the Haines Cruise Ship Dock.
