What We Will Do
We hope you’re hungry for salmon! Our local captains show you the best of the area on this memorable fishing experience. Hit the best salmon fishing spots, spot Juneau wildlife like bears and eagles, and make some family memories.
There are tons of salmon to catch in the area, and our crew makes sure to take you to some favorite locations. Even if you don’t have fishing experience, you’re likely to catch something on this trip.
For those of you visiting on an Alaska cruise ship shore excursion, our trips are tailored to get you right to the heart of the action and back to your boat in a timely fashion.
What To Expect
Some of the highlights of this tour include:
*Duration: 4 hours
**For private charters, price is for 5 people; a 6th person can be added for an extra cost
*34-foot boat
*Local Guides who know the ins and outs of Juneau waters.
*Fishing licenses can be purchased right on our boats immediately prior to the trip. Cash is required. Licenses are required for everyone age 16 and older. If you already have a fishing license, you must bring it with you to present to the captain. One-day licenses start at $25, and the king salmon stamp starts at $15.
*If you don’t have your own transportation, we are happy to provide it. Our boats leave from Auke Bay, which is about a 25-minute ride from downtown, where the cruise ships dock. We also provide transportation to and from most hotels.
*Being located in a temperate rainforest, we definitely don’t let the rain hold us back. We recommend bringing a rain layer not just for our trip but for your entire time here in the lovely Tongass National Forest. All of our boats do have a heater available to be turned on if anyone wants heat inside. We have cabins with seats for anyone looking to stay warm and dry.
*We do not supply personal rain gear. We recommend dressing in layers – t-shirt, sweatshirt, rain layer, long pants, and any soft soled shoes you are comfortable in. We can go from rain to sunshine and back again in a few short hours here.
*We provide bottled water, soft drinks, and assorted snacks – chips, granola bars, candy. You are more than welcome to bring any of your own food on board with us.
*All ages are welcome on our boats. Every person on board does count as a spot on the trip, including children of all ages.
*Any fish you catch, within the limits, are yours to keep if you’d like. We work with a local fish processor to have your catch processed and shipped to your home. If you would like to pay the processor to process and ship, there are easy order form cards for you to fill out on board so that you can keep track of your fish and ensure it is processed to your specifications.
*All five species of salmon: king, coho, sockeye, pink, and chum. Halibut, rockfish, and Pacific cod are some of the typical bottom fish found around the Juneau area.
About Us
Grantley Moore (CAPTAIN)
Captain Grantley Moore has lived in Southeast Alaska most of his life. His enthusiasm, energy, and knowledge of the surrounding areas are what make his charters exceptional. Captain Grant and his team are locally raised and know the ins and outs of Juneau for the greatest whale watching, sightseeing, and sport fishing adventures. He has an eagle eye when spotting whales, and his favorite phrase is "FISH ON!”
Nani (CAPTAIN)
We are thrilled to have Captain Nani on the team! She joined Moore Charters as a deckhand and has worked her way up to a captain’s position. Nani loves meeting people from all over the world and helping them check Alaska adventures off their bucket list. When asked what she would like guests to know about her, Captain Nani enthusiastically responded, "I love to kill fish!” Captain Nani was born and raised in Southeast Alaska and knows the waters well. When not fishing, Nani has dedicated her time to her studies at Pacific University and is currently studying for a doctorate in physical therapy.
Wyatt (CAPTAIN)
Captain Wyatt was born in Sitka, Alaska, and has been with the Moore Charters team for nearly five years. When asked what he likes most about being a charter captain, he quickly responded "I never know what is going to happen on a charter. We can target a certain kind of fish, but we never truly know what kind of creature may come up on the end of the fishing line or what kind of show the whales will put on for us that day.” Wyatt is kindly referred to by co-workers as the "whale whisperer.” Wyatt’s enthusiasm is what guests enjoy the most about going on a charter with him. He captains the Equinox.
Breckan (CAPTAIN)
Captain Breckan is a fourth generation Juneauite, born and raised in the last frontier. Her favorite thing about being a charter captain is being with others who enjoy the water as much as she does. She loves catching fish that are good to eat, i.e., halibut, salmon, and rockfish, especially when they put up a good fight. Captain Breckan grew up on her father’s charter boat and started as a deckhand when she was 14. She obtained her 50-ton captain’s license when she was 20 years old. She brings enthusiasm for Juneau and fishing to each charter.
Cancellation Policy
If you have to cancel your adventure for some unfortunate reason, a 100% refund is issued with a 30-day notice. A 50% refund is issued with a 15 to 29-day notice. No refunds are issued for cancellations with less than 15 days notice. No-shows are non-refundable.

Norris Adventure: Seaplane, Paddle & Glacier Hike
Experience 3 iconic Alaskan adventures—flightseeing, glacier hiking, and packrafting—all in just 5 hours! This is Juneau’s first multi-sport adventure of this kind. Packrafting is one of the fastest growing sports in Alaska. This Packraft adventure begins with boarding a six-passenger floatplane and taking off from the water. Salmon Fishing Charter
There’s nothing like the sound of a screaming reel and a bent-over rod as a King Salmon dives deeper, you’re hooked up! And from this point on, it’s likely your hooked on salmon fishing in Alaska. Our light tackle gear will give you the fight of a lifetime no matter what species of salmon is on the end of your line. In May/June we are typically targeting the King (Chinook) Salmon, the largest of all the salmon who put up quite the fight. During the months of July and August, our focus is likely to be the Coho (Silver) Salmon. These silver bullets are sure to put even the most experienced anglers to the test. Often darting rapidly and jumping out of the water, they never give up without a fun fight. It’s not uncommon to hook into two, three, or more simultaneously, creating what we like to call organized chaos. While hooking these Cohos may seem like the only task, getting these fish netted and into the boat before they shake your hook is an even greater challenge. And that’s how we troll, at 49th Fathom Charters.
A Tour With Taste
If you are a foodie then this tour is for you! Enjoy delectable king crab bisque, wild Alaska salmon, hog wings, and, of course, beer! You won't want to miss the tastiest tour in town! Locals will colorfully detail some of Juneau’s history and culture as you stroll along the beautiful streets of downtown Juneau. A brief introduction is given, then the fun begins! Each tour combines walking to tasting locations, eating delicious local foods, and learning about the lively history and culture that makes Juneau so special. Each participant will be provided a reusable shopping bag filled with recipes, additional tastings, as well as nearly $50.00 in coupon from downtown retailers. There are seven tasting locations with NINE tastings total, including a wine pairing and beer tasting: *Tracy's King Crab Shack: King crab bisque and a crab cake *Deckhand Dave's: Panko crusted salmon filets, house-made tartar sauce *McGivney's Downtown: Hot wings, Alaska brewed beer *V's Cellar Door: Halibut fusion nachos *SALT: Chef's choice, with wine pairing *Harbor Tea & Spice: Ice Cave Blue Blend tea *Alaskan Hotel & Bar: Locally brewed beer *Chef Stef's: Spruce tip salted caramels (in gift bag) *Salts by Kate: Spruce tip salt Our guides will make recommendations for great restaurants and things to do while you are visiting Juneau.
