Juneau Sled Dog Discovery & Musher's Camp
Your journey will begin with a 25-minute narrated drive over to Douglas Island. Upon arriving up at dog camp, you will be greeted with overwhelming excitement from our teams of dogs that can’t wait to take you on the ride of your life. You will then hop aboard our custom-designed wheeled summer sleds that sit 6 people, with the musher steering the team from the back. Relax and enjoy watching the 16 dogs in front of you run with their hearts and souls to give you an authentic dog sledding experience. Halfway through your ride, the musher will stop to snap some photos of you with the dog team in front, as well as to give these dogs a break---anything above 0 degrees is a warm summer day for them! Get your list of questions ready, because, after the ride, your group will proceed to the covered wooden area for the Musher Presentation where you will learn all there is to know about this sport and the mushing lifestyle from a real musher and a retired sled dog. If you haven’t gotten enough pictures up at our scenic camp yet, venture on over to our hanging bridge that overlooks Fish Creek and is surrounded by gorgeous Spruce and Hemlock trees. Enjoy bouncing on the bridge but remember to save some energy for puppy time! That’s right---we almost always have at least a couple of litters of pups up at camp ready to be loved on. In fact, it is very important for future racing success that they have ample human socialization, so you cuddling up with these adorable husky pups is actually helpful---thank you! After enough puppy kisses, you will board your bus and head back to your dock so you can continue exploring our state’s charming capital. Juneau Whale Watching and Mendenhall Glacier Combo Tour
This is an enthralling opportunity to witness two jewels in Juneau - the graceful elegance of humpback whales and the serene beauty of the Mendenhall Glacier. Juneau Whale Watching Tour
Our 2 hour whale watching adventure begins when we board a coach bus that departs downtown Juneau from the Mt. Roberts Tram parking lot. A 25 minute journey through the picturesque landscape of Southeast Alaska will take you to Auke Bay Harbor. "All aboard!” and you’re off to Alaska waters and the ultimate whale watching experience. On our quest for whales, we will be on the lookout for bald eagles, seals, sea lions, black bear and more of Alaska’s wildlife. The star of the tour is the humpback whale, but we are always looking out for the playful orcas. Once we spot a whale, the captain will slow down and allow you to go on the spacious viewing decks for a great photo opportunity. Our custom design vessels provides unrestricted viewing from inside the cabin as well as outside. Although the cabin is enclosed and heated, we recommend you dress in layers, after all it is Alaska! There’s nothing like the sound of a screaming reel and a bent-over rod as a King Salmon dives deeper, you’re hooked up! And from this point on, it’s likely your hooked on salmon fishing in Alaska. Our light tackle gear will give you the fight of a lifetime no matter what species of salmon is on the end of your line. In May/June we are typically targeting the King (Chinook) Salmon, the largest of all the salmon who put up quite the fight. During the months of July and August, our focus is likely to be the Coho (Silver) Salmon. These silver bullets are sure to put even the most experienced anglers to the test. Often darting rapidly and jumping out of the water, they never give up without a fun fight. It’s not uncommon to hook into two, three, or more simultaneously, creating what we like to call organized chaos. While hooking these Cohos may seem like the only task, getting these fish netted and into the boat before they shake your hook is an even greater challenge. Harv's Original 6-Passenger Boat Public Experience
Join locally trained captains for a personalized Alaskan whale watching tour. Our departure times are not the same everyday because each day is different. Cruise ships arrive at different times and passengers may have different activities planned for the day. We schedule the tour for the time that best fits each guests' needs and time frame. Itinerary: If your tour time is 9:30am, this is the time we plan for transportation to leave! PLEASE arrive at least 15 minutes prior to the listed tour time, so that we can leave on time! We would then plan to arrive at the harbor where our boats depart by 10:00am. When you arrive at the harbor, you will be met by your captain or guide and have an opportunity to use the restroom on land (there is one on the boat, it's just not as roomy) and then you will head down the dock to board our vessel for your whale watching adventure! You will start heading back to the harbor at approximately 12:35pm (depending on where you are) so that you can be disembarking by about 12:55pm to meet your returning transport at 1:00pm. FAQs: **Q. During the 25 minutes you spend on the glacier you will learn how glaciers are formed and what makes them so spectacular. As you touch down at our authentic dog mushing camp, you will be greeted by professional dog mushers and their energetic companions, the Alaskan Huskies! Juneau Helicopter Pilot's Choice Tour
Moments after departing the heli-base, you will enjoy a breathtaking view only seen by few. Your flight takes you over ice spires, deep blue crevasses, and meltwater pools. After arriving at the heliport, you will be outfitted in glacier boots and given a safety briefing by our friendly tour attendants. Your pilot will choose two different glacier landings among the 36 named glaciers stretched across 1,500 square miles of the Juneau Icefield; a few landing possibilities include the Herbert, Taku, Norris, Gilkey, Hole in the Wall or the famous Mendenhall Glacier. Moments after departing the heli-base, you will enjoy a breathtaking view only seen by few. Your flight takes you over ice spires, deep blue crevasses, and meltwater pools. With approximately 50 minutes of helicopter time you will have plenty of opportunities to take in views of steep alpine ridges, lush rainforest, and the incredible glaciers below. For an up-close opportunity to appreciate this ancient landscape, your pilot will land in two different locations, where you will continue the tour on foot for approximately 15 minutes at each location. You will have the opportunity to explore and take photographs of the stunning untouched landscape. Once on the ice, your pilot will escort you on an informative walk on the glacier’s surface while describing the magnificent area that surrounds you. Dog Sledding Summer Camp
Join us on an excursion where you will learn about Alaska’s official state sport with a trip to Dog Sledding Summer Camp. Your adventure begins on the breathtaking drive along Gastineau Channel, through the historic AJ Gold Mine site and into the remote and scenic Sheep Creek Valley. As you arrive at the summer camp training site, you will be greeted by a professional dog musher and some of the state’s most famous athletes: the Alaskan huskies! You will receive an educational tour of the camp, visit a 19th-century replica of an Iditarod Outpost and enjoy fresh baked cookies. Next, climb aboard a comfortable wheeled cart and relax as your energetic Alaskan husky team whisks you along the one-and-a-half-mile trail through the beautiful landscape. You’ll return to Dog Sledding Summer Camp for your chance to meet the dogs and snuggle the next generation of great Alaskan athletes: sled dog puppies! This family-friendly excursion is truly an authentic Alaskan experience. Enjoy a ride through the scenic Sheep Creek Valley in a wheeled-cart pulled by a team of Alaska Huskies! Our dog camp is complete with 120 huskies, including sled dog puppies. It is located on the site of the historic AJ Mine, so you’ll see mining relics on your way to camp. This tour does not include a helicopter flight.
