Beginner's Snowshoeing Adventure
HIGHLIGHTS: • Experience an intro to snowshoeing at the Anchorage's Glen Alps! • Perfect for solo travelers, couples, and families with older children. • Enjoy breathtaking views of the Anchorage Bowl and Cook Inlet. • Learn about Alaska's alpine spruce forests narrated by skilled naturalists. • Opportunity for wildlife sightings, including moose, hares, lynx, and birds! • Provisions include a granola bar, and snowshoes of course! Have you have ever wanted to try snowshoeing, or just a new winter activity, but didn't know where to start? Look no further! Snowshoeing is an activity which allows you to travel easily through snow-packed terrain with the use of oversized "shoes" that keep you floating on the surface of the snow. This introductory-level tour takes us into the mountainous wonderland of the Glen Alps, located in the Chugach mountains just to the east of Anchorage. After a quick introduction on using a snowshoe, we'll walk around until you get comfortable with them. Walking in snowshoes is easy; you should feel comfortable quickly. Our circuit takes us just over two miles through snow-covered hemlocks and alpine meadows. Opportunity for photography and wildlife viewing flourishes within the magnificent South Fork Campbell Creek valley. We could see small mammals, birds, or even a moose! The Glen Alps is without-a-doubt one of those places that everyone needs to visit at least once during their stay in Alaska. Experience it with us in this one-of-a-kind-way, today! Please Note: Our guides are avalanche safety certified, ensuring your well-being while providing education on how to carefully travel in hazardous environments. If there is not enough snow accumulation to go snowshoeing, we will go winter hiking, or you can opt for a full refund. This is to be determined by the morning of your tour. Experience Suggestions: No experience required but understand that snowshoeing is more arduous of an activity than hiking. You should be able to walk at least 3 miles on flat pavement, or 2.5 miles of uneven rolling terrain over the course of 2 hours. You should also be able to balance well and feel comfortable walking in snowy conditions. Some parts of the trail are steep and hilly, placing additional stress on areas of the body not impacted by level terrain. Not recommended for those with cardiac or respiratory issues/illness. May be difficult for those with joint issues.
