Traitors Cove Bear Viewing Tour
The Experience: The Traitors Cove Bear Viewing experience begins with a short 20-minute floatplane flight over the lush wilderness of the Tongass National Forest. Your pilot will narrate along the way, pointing out key points in the area. After you touch down in Traitors Cove, you will be met on the floatplane dock by your personal Alaska Bear Guide who will drive you about one mile down a United States Forest Service (USFS) road to a trailhead. Your guide will safely escort you down the trail (approximately 250 yards) to the Margaret Creek Bear Viewing platform. Along the trail, your guide will point out the flora, fauna, berries and trees as well as any wildlife you encounter. Keep your eyes peeled all around – bald eagles and even bears are known to perch high above in the trees. USFS Facility: The Margaret Creek Bear Viewing observatory is maintained by the USFS whose policy allows bear tours from late July into late September. We operate our bear viewing tours from the beginning of August through mid-September in order to maximize the peak of the bear viewing season. To protect this delicate habitat, only a small number of visitors are allowed on the platform at one time and there is a restriction for the total number of visitors per day. As a result, you are guaranteed an intimate and awe-inspiring experience. An opportunity to visit this location is an opportunity not to be missed! It is advised to book this tour as early as possible due to the strict availability. The Amenities: Upon arrival to the platform, you will be at a prime vantage point to see Alaska’s REAL fisherman! Helicopter Glacier Dog Sledding
Want to cross two things off your bucket list? Look no further than our helicopter glacier dog sledding tour. This amazing 90-minute excursion combines the best that Alaska has to offer — glaciers, flightseeing, dog sledding, and snow — to create an epic tour that will leave you talking about it months after your vacation has ended. “Highlight of our trip!” and “Opportunity of a lifetime!” are just some of the positive feedback we receive from our guests. Our Glacier Dog Sledding Tour departs from our office located at the Seward Airport. Once at our office, we will prepare you for your trip. We have all the gear you need. We have boots that will go over your shoes to help keep them dry, we have rain jackets, and if you are a little nervous about the weather being cold, we even have mittens. The weather in Seward typically ranges between 55° and 75°. On the glacier itself, the temperature can vary from about 40° to 90° depending on the weather but these are temperatures you will likely see throughout your trip, not just on our excursion — so be sure to pack accordingly. First-time visitors to Alaska are sometimes surprised by both how warm and how cold various parts of the state can be. We highly advise that you dress in layers and wear sunglasses. It can be very bright on the glacier and conditions on the glacier can also differ greatly from conditions in Seward. Once geared up, we will teach you how to safely enter and exit our helicopters. We primarily fly Robinson 44 helicopters which have room for three passengers as well as a small backpack or handbag. This means that everyone gets a window seat! If you are part of a larger group, don’t worry! We have multiple helicopters on-site and are experts at working with large families, tour groups, and are even great at throwing big corporate events complete with catering! After going over the safety features of our helicopter, it’s time to fly! Sit on our sunny porch and watch for eagles, who nest in the trees on the far side of the airport, as you wait for your helicopter. When your helicopter lands, our staff will walk you out to the helicopter and help you get in. Once onboard, our friendly pilots will introduce themselves, make sure you are ready, and then it’s up, up, and away! Our pilots are experienced, professional, and an absolute blast to fly with. Never flown in a helicopter? It is much smoother than ride than flying in an airplane. Our pilots have pinpoint precision and can go just about anywhere. We pride ourselves on our excellent safety record. As you leave the Seward Airport, you will fly over a beautiful braided river that terminates in the ocean. This is a popular spot to see brown bears fishing for salmon. As the helicopter flies towards the mountains and over Resurrection Bay, keep an eye out for otters and whales. Although rare, humpbacks and orcas are known to come into the nutrient-rich water of the bay to feed. As the helicopter approaches the mountains, you’ll pass over a beautiful grassy meadow. Then, as you round a corner and enter the mountain valley check out several beautiful waterfalls. Look even more closely and try to spot mountain goats as they make their way along the rocky cliffs. When Godwin Glacier comes into view you will be spellbound. The toe of the glacier, or where it terminates, is where we see the blue ice glaciers are commonly known for. Look down below to see giant fissures and crevasses in the ice! We will follow the glacier up and slowly gain elevation until we reach the accumulation zone, the area where it snows heavily throughout most of the year. Annual Snowfall on Godwin Glacier exceeds one hundred feet of snow! You’ll be in utter disbelief as the helicopter lands at our dog camp at just how much snow there really is. You’ll want sunglasses, it’s bright! As the helicopter lands, make sure you have all your belongings as our glacier staff will come to help you out of the helicopter and escort you towards our camp. This is about a 10-20 meter walk. We like to tell our guests that the ground is uneven and the snow can be punchy at the height of the day, but it is not slippery. This is some of the only walking guests will have to do making it appropriate for all ages and activity levels. Those worried about conditions should let our staff know so that we can be extra attentive. Our dog sledding camp is the home-away-from-home for our mushing staff, who work in rotating shifts, living in this remote haven taking care of our dogs, and sharing their enthusiasm for mushing with visitors like you. Our guides will introduce themselves to you and then explain to you what life is like living on a glacier taking care of sled dogs. Your guide will walk you into the kennel where you will meet some of our famous canine athletes before going out on the trail. Our dogs are all very friendly but to ensure a positive experience for both our guests and our dogs, we always teach our visitors how to interact with dogs. Under the supervision of one of our guides, we invite you to pet and play with our dogs — though you certainly don’t have to. After getting your fill of kisses, it’s time to mush! We use a unique double-driver dog sled and we give all our guests the option to sit and relax or to help mush the team under the supervision of the guide. Before hitting the trail, we will go over the basics of dog sledding. We explain how to sit on our sleds so the driver can maneuver more easily. We also go over what gear we use and why it’s important. Most importantly, we teach those helping to mush the team, all about how to stop a dog team! Believe it or not, in dog sledding the toughest thing we have to teach the dogs is how to stop! Before we set off, the dogs generally bark and jump to show their excitement — they really love their job — and if you have a good camera this makes for some fantastic action shots. Then, with the command of “alright” the team falls silent and starts to take you around beautiful Godwin Glacier. Our guides are all highly passionate, experienced, mushers who excel at telling stories and sharing their love of dogs with you. Hear captivating stories from racing events like the 1,000 miles long Iditarod Sled Dog Race or the Copper Basin 300. Every now and then, your musher will stop to take photos of you and the team. We know photos are an important part of any vacation and we are happy to help you capture your glacier dog sledding tour. The photo opportunities here are absolutely unbelievable! During these stops, you can also say hello to the dogs or watch and try not to laugh as they roll around in the snow. Time flies when you are having fun and before you know it your 30 minutes of mushing will be over. When you get back to dog camp, you are given another opportunity to say hello and pet the dogs. This is a great time to go up to the lead dogs and pose with them for a photograph. After you go dog sledding, You have approximately 30 more minutes on the glacier which you can use to stage group photos, meet our puppies, or simply kick back and enjoy the scenery. Every year we raise one or two litters of puppies on Godwin Glacier. Having you visit us, give us an excellent opportunity to socialize our young dogs! When you’ve had your fill of puppy kisses, we invite you to relax on our outdoor porch. Sit back, enjoy the sunshine, and take in the beautiful scenery. On cooler days, enjoy our propane fire or go inside our guest tent. Before you know it, you’ll hear the helicopter as it makes its way back to camp to pick you up. Your Guide will help you snap a quick photo in front of the helicopter before helping you onboard. Then, it’s time to fly back to Seward! Brooks Falls Self-Guided Trip
Venture to Brooks Falls, also known as Brooks Camp, to see the iconic moment of salmon fighting their way upstream, leaping up waterfalls only to be caught in the jaws of Coastal Brown Bears. Bear numbers typically peak in mid-July. Once you arrive from a scenic flight in our float plane, you will be given a safety briefing by Park Rangers at the Visitor's Center. After that, you can enjoy the park at your own pace. The falls where the bears congregate most densely for fishing an easy 1 mile walk away from the Visitors Center. In addition to watching the bears fish at the falls, you can attend one of the ranger-led programs, walk along the beach, and even enjoy a hot meal or cup of coffee at Brooks Lodge. Arrive at Naknek Lake, a premier destination for history, fishing, and brown bear viewing. The bears congregate around the Brooks River corridor starting in June, awaiting the 200,000 to 400,000 salmon who will make their way up the falls. Watch the bears dive, run, splash, and attempt to catch as many fish as they can. You may see bears on the shores of the lake, around the camp, crossing in front of you along the pathways, and of course, from the platforms. Perched above the river, you'll have incredible views to see them and grab those iconic shots that Brooks Falls is famous for. What it’s really like to see the Misty Fjords by air. Here’s how your Misty Fjords floatplane tour will look and feel. Imagine yourself in a flawlessly maintained DeHavilland Beaver or Otter. A highly trained, experienced bush pilot is at the controls. You are on top of the world, with the Misty Fjords National Monument sparkling below. This ice-rimmed wilderness was slowly carved out by massive glaciers tens of thousands of years ago. You’ll see cascading waterfalls, jewel-like lakes, and abundant wildlife. Lock your eyes on sheer walls of granite plunging over 3,000 feet into the fjords, lush forests of spruce, hemlock and cedar clinging to snowcapped peaks. Anan Bear Viewing Tour
Your unique Anan Creek Bear Viewing experience begins not at Anan Creek, but at Seawind Aviation’s home base in Ketchikan, Alaska. Within minutes of departing Ketchikan in one of Seawind Aviation’s seaplanes, you will take flight and be transported over inlets, bays, and lakes and over the lush, wilderness of the Tongass National Forest on a 40-minute flight to the Anan Creek Wildlife Observatory. After the water landing at Anan Creek, the pilot will guide the seaplane up to the beach, which, depending on the tidal currents, may be covered with kelp and mussels and possibly a starfish or two. Be aware, however, that the rocky beach may be wet and slippery, so good footwear is a must! On the beach, your party, including a Seawind Aviation “bear guide” will be met by U.S. Forest Service personnel, the stewards of the Anan Creek Wildlife Observatory, as you move to the trailhead and down the half-mile path to the observatory. Along the way, you will see the thick flora, fauna, and fir and cedar trees that define the rain forest. And don’t forget to look up – bald eagles and sometimes even bears have been perched high above in the trees. * The Anan Creek Wildlife Observatory The Anan Creek Wildlife Observatory, maintained and operated by the U.S. Forest Service, is open for permitted “bear tours” from early July into late August, which is typically when the salmon run is most abundant and bears are most hungry. After a short walk to the trailhead, and then down the trail – about 1 mile in total – you will arrive at the Anan Wildlife Observatory, which consists of a covered viewing shelter, a photo area accessed by stairs, and outhouse facilities. The viewing “season” is short, as it is the salmon run that brings the bears down to the creek-side. And, to protect this delicate habitat, the U.S. Forest Service issues only a small number of daily passes (obtained by Seawind Aviation upon booking your tour) and a limited number of viewers are allowed on the platform at any one time. Based on past experience, in order to maximize your opportunity for the best bear viewing experience – after all it is Mother Nature! – Seawind Aviation offers Anan Creek “bear viewing tours” during the peak season from early-July through August. So, it is advised to book this tour as early as possible and not miss this intimate and awe-inspiring experience!
Glacier Bay Bush Plane Fly-in: River Fish / Bear Watch
Once we arrive, we will take a short drive to the river where we’ll fish and look for bears. Depending on the time of year, we’ll fish for Salmon and/or Trout. Both fly rods and spinning rods will be available, as well as lessons for those new to fishing. Note: If fishing is not your thing, we can just do bear watching and explore the island via miles of old logging roads. *FAQ - Do I need a fishing license? Yes, if you’re age 16+. A 1 day (24 hr) license can be purchased online for $15. - What should I bring? Rain gear, water, snack/lunch, and a sense of adventure! - Do I need to tip my guide? Gratuity is greatly appreciated if you are satisfied with the service of your guide. Although it is customary to tip your guide, it is not required. We are often asked the size of a typical tip. An appropriate guideline is 15% of the cost of the trip. Feel free to alter this as you see fit. - Can we keep our catch? We highly encourage catch and release, but ultimately, the decision is up to the angler. We encourage catch and release for a number of reasons. For one, we don't want to attract bears while on the river. Additionally, Pink Salmon do not freeze very well- they are best eaten the day of. If the primary goal of your trip is to keep fish to take home, we suggest saltwater fishing instead of river fishing. Alternatively, you could book both saltwater and freshwater trips to get a taste of both worlds!

Pack Creek Brown Bear Viewing
Join us for an unforgettable brown bear viewing adventure at the renowned “Fortress of the Bears” within the Pack Creek Bear Sanctuary, the premier coastal brown bear viewing area on Admiralty Island. Your day begins with a trip briefing and safety orientation led by your experienced wilderness guide, followed with a breathtaking 25-minute floatplane flight to Pack Creek. Upon landing, you’ll be warmly greeted by the dedicated rangers of Pack Creek. Your guide will then lead you on a journey along the very paths the bears tread, guiding you through shoreline and forest trails to prime brown bear viewing locations. Known as the “Fortress of the Bears,” Admiralty Island holds the Tlingit name Kootznoowoo, and it lives up to its title with an impressive brown bear population of approximately 1,800 brown bears. This island boasts one of the highest bear densities in the world, with roughly one brown bear per square mile. It’s home to about 10% of Alaska’s entire brown bear population, making it one of the most densely populated brown bear areas on the planet. From the banks of Pack Creek, you’ll have the incredible opportunity to observe bears in their natural habitat, whether they’re clamming or foraging on beach greens, salmon fishing in the creek, or enjoying a nap in the tall grass. While we can’t guarantee wildlife sightings, the abundant bear population in the Pack Creek vicinity seldom disappoints. Brown bears are most active during mating season (late May – June) and annual salmon runs (late July – August). We are grateful to the Tlingit village of Angoon for allowing us to share this part of their homeland with our guests. Pack Creek is an ecosystem teeming with diverse flora and fauna, providing abundant nourishment for the thriving brown bear population on Admiralty Island. Eagles soar over Admiralty’s lakes, their calls echoing in harmony with the diverse bird population. This experience is a true gem of Southeast Alaska, offering visitors the chance to closely observe and photograph wildlife in their natural environment. Waterfall Creek Peak Season Brown Bear Viewing
Begin your wilderness adventure with a scenic 30-minute floatplane flight. Be sure to have your camera ready as you glide over amazing landscapes and look out for marine wildlife below before touching down at Waterfall Creek. This is a relatively unknown, remote wilderness location that provides unmatched brown bear viewing during the peak of the salmon run, late July-August. After landing, disembark from the floatplane and wave goodbye to the Alaskan bush pilot. The primary viewing spot is a short walk down the rocky shoreline. Follow the sounds of the waterfall and splashing salmon, as the guide hikes the group to the viewing location. Brown bears may be seen at any time while ashore. The guide will direct to the best spots for viewing and photography. Groups will spend most time seated, quiet, and still to enhance the opportunities of seeing bears. While we do occasionally have close encounters, our goal is for the bears to ignore us and engage in their natural behaviors. After enjoying four hours of brown bear viewing, hike back to where your floatplane is waiting to whisk you back to Juneau. This is truly an Alaskan wilderness adventure! From the banks of Waterfall Creek, we’ll have the opportunity to watch bears fishing for salmon. While wildlife sightings are not guaranteed, the abundant bear population of the Waterfall Creek area rarely disappoints. Brown Bears are most active during the annual salmon runs (late July and August).
