There you meet your professional guides, versed in the ecology and history of the area, who take you for a short van ride along the scenic Klondike Highway to the summit of the White Pass. After a bicycle and safety orientation, it is fifteen scenic miles downhill ride from the summit to the sea! As you coast along the paved Klondike Highway on this one and a half hour bike ride you make multiple stops for photos of the historic White Pass & Yukon Route Railroad, cascading waterfalls, awe-inspiring glaciers, majestic mountains, and other historic sites. You even get to ride your bike across the US border! After your thrilling ride, enjoy time in historic downtown Skagway. ITINERARY *Day One – Thursday Welcome to Anchorage! When you arrive at the Anchorage Airport, there will be taxi service available just outside of the baggage claim area, or car service (Lyft & Uber) available outside of check in on the second floor. This should be about a 15-minute ride from the airport to downtown. Your host at the locally owned boutique style inn will have check in directions on the front door for you when you arrive. The Inn is known for their Alaskan hospitality, prime location close to the Tony Knowles Coastal Trail and easy walk to many of our favorite eateries and local shops in downtown Anchorage! Please meet your guide at 5:45pm at the Copper Whale Inn lobby. We will walk two blocks to our welcome dinner from here. Today Includes: Overnight Anchorage, Welcome Dinner at Glacier Brewhouse *Day Two – Friday Today, we will enjoy Alaska’s favorite sport – dog sledding! We visit the home of the 5-time Iditarod champion kennel at Dallas Seavey Racing. This adventure is one hour of riding the runners of the dog sled on the training trails at Dallas Seavey Racing, meeting the four-legged athletes, and touring the kennel with plenty of time for pictures with the dogs! The dog sled ride is an iconic 5 mile mush through the boreal forest of Talkeetna – learning the basic commands to navigate your team along the established trail. Moderate fitness level is recommended. For those not wanting to drive their own team, join your musher guide to sit and enjoy the views from a tour sled! Your Salmon Berry Tours guide will provide you with transportation into Talkeetna with a stop en route at the Denali Brewing Company to enjoy samples of their craft made beers on tap. Check in and then get prepared for departure for tonight we set out for aurora viewing. Escape the night lights of the city and search for the northern lights at an aurora viewing location outside of Fairbanks. Learn the history of the area, Alaska Native folklore, and personal stories of living in the Alaska! This evening excursion includes roundtrip transportation and hot drinks with your local guide. Your tour will take you into the heart of the gold fields of the Tanana Valley where you will feel the history come alive! * Historic Gold Dredge 8 Gold Dredge 8 operated in the Goldstream Valley of Fairbanks from 1928 to 1959 and extracted millions of ounces of gold from the frozen Alaskan Ground. Today, Gold Dredge 8 is listed on the U.S. National Register of Historic Places and the site is a U.S. Historic District. The dredge serves as a monument to the hard working miners who built Fairbanks. You will have the opportunity to be guided through the entire dredge as you see, touch and learn about the history that it contains and the dredge’s importance to the development of Fairbanks. * Living Mining Museum After you’ve experienced the Gold Dredge 8 up close, walk into our Main Camp and through our Mining Museum. Packed with history and artifacts from the early 1900’s, you’ll learn more about the entire gold mining process from cleaning the land, to thawing the frozen ground, to the final recovery of the gold. You’ll also learn the history of the hearty sourdoughs that first prospected in the area and the hundreds of workers that operated the dredges during their heyday. Finally, you’ll get a chance to see an array of ice age fossils that were found on these very grounds during the mining process. * Tanana Valley Railroad Your adventure begins at Gold Dredge 8 with a ride on a replica of the Tanana Valley Railroad near some of the original rail routes. Once aboard our narrow gauge railroad, you will enjoy a short narrated journey to the dredge. Your regular conductor and commentator is Earl Hughes, who provides festive music along your journey. Laughton Glacier Expedition

Unveil the Wonders of Skagway You will board the train for a nearly one-hour journey on the White Pass scenic railway, filled with spectacular waterfalls, rushing rivers, jagged mountain peaks, and complemented by Klondike Gold Rush history. At Glacier Station, you will begin a fully guided round-trip hike of up to eight miles, in the clean mountain air. Your hike begins on a well-maintained trail meandering through the surreal beauty of an old-growth rainforest valley that is home to an abundance of moose, bear, mountain goats and other wild animals. The trail winds along the raging Skagway River, meeting it in places where you will take memorable photos before you turn into the valley containing the majestic Laughton Glacier. You will take a break at the “lookout” and bask in the splendor of the 360-degree views available there. Leaving the lookout and proceeding toward the glacier, you will notice that the route has become more rugged, though still manageable. Approaching the glacier, the terrain changes dramatically as you leave the rocky riverbed and pick your way through a boulder field and onto the glacier. You are certain to enjoy the breathtaking views, exposed crevasses and moulins, and other fascinating features of the great frozen river of ice, ever-changing in the harsh Alaskan environment. Hot drinks will be offered by your guides while you are perched on the glacier. Upon return to the trailhead, you will be greeted with our traditional “Bush Buffet”, complete with cold beverages. At Glacier Station, guides will outfit you with snowshoes and other gear before you begin a fully guided and narrated three- to five-mile round trip snowshoe hike. Revel in the clean mountain air, amidst the surreal beauty of an old-growth forest. The magnificent, snow-blanketed, sub-alpine rainforest valley is home to an abundance of moose, bear, mountain goats and other wild animals. This spectacular trail winds along the raging Skagway River, where you will take memorable photos before continuing toward a smaller valley containing the Laughton Glacier. The canopy opens as you leave the forest and reach a panoramic viewpoint known as “the lookout”. This is where you can take a break as well as photos while enjoying the breathtaking views of Alaska’s winter wonderland in the spring. From here, some may choose to continue a ways toward the majestic Laughton Glacier, while others may make this the apex of the hike.
