Start your adventure by traveling up the Klondike Highway while you take in wildlife, waterfalls, glacier-covered mountains & views of the White Pass Railroad. Once into Canada (Province of British Columbia aka B.C.) you'll pass through the subarctic alpine tundra of the Tormented Valley, with views of Summit Lake. Our featured stop is the Yukon Suspension Bridge, located in the remote British Columbia wilderness. This 200 foot long bridge traverses the Tutshi River where you'll be able to spot a number of animals in their natural habitat. The roaring rapids below provides an amazing backdrop for photos & memories while on your Alaskan vacation. The Outdoor Interpretive Museum provides maps & guides to give you a better understanding of the region between Skagway & Whitehorse, with information on the First Nations & the stories of the Gold Rush as this part of continent was settled. The 2nd stop is the Tagish Lake Dog Sledding Camp. Here, you'll get a glimpse into the history of sled dog use throughout Canada and Alaska. You'll get to see the dogs in action and play with puppies. You'll also get to meet real life trainers & mushers! Musher's Camp & Gold Panning
This authentic Alaskan tour begins with a bus ride through Skagway to our dog camp deep in the Tongass National Forest. Once you arrive, you will attend a presentation from our mushers where you will learn all there is to know about the sport, as well as meet these professional athletes and their pups! After this, get ready to feel like an early explorer by panning for gold in our riverside sluice. Top it off by traversing our scenic grounds and visiting our gift shop before returning to town. Your journey begins with an entertaining historic tour from your knowledgeable guide through downtown Skagway and along nine miles of stunning coastline to our Adventure Camp in Dyea. Kick off your visit with what we like to call a “Musher Talk.” We have been sharing our passion for dog sledding for years, and in that time, we have gathered up the most frequently asked questions about the sport. In the Musher Talk, we will share fascinating information about this extreme Alaskan state sport and welcome any additional questions you may have. Of course, we make sure you have plenty of time to meet some of the actual athletes who do these amazing things, our sled dogs! Not to worry—we have litters of puppies too that are ready for cuddles and kisses. Human socialization is actually essential to their development and racing success. After that, take a chance to pan for gold in our riverside sluice! Once your guide shows you the art of gold panning, you can test your luck to see what you can find while learning about the history of the gold rush that took off from this area. Then you will have time to take a short self-guided nature hike next to a beautiful waterfall and dense Alaskan forest or browse the gift shop and relax in our saloon with a deck overlooking the picturesque stream. All of this in a spectacular Alaskan setting! This is a tour full of Alaskan adventure, history, and awe-inspiring wilderness. This unique and personal experience will also give you the skills to bring your Alaskan food favorites home while creating memories of life in the Last Frontier! The Chef and the Owner of the Historic Skagway Inn & Alaska House Restaurant, located on the notorious Gold Rush era “Paradise Alley”, share how successful food preservation technologies from the time of the Gold Rush are still used today and show you modern cooking skills - an artful blend of the old and new. Get a behind-the-scenes look at organic gardening in the Inn’s kitchen garden. Understand the science that transforms garden and seafood items into delicious meals. Uncover the local secrets of Alaskan organic gardening and how to prepare, cook and preserve local food favorites. Our Cordon Bleu chef shows you the tips and tricks of professional knife skills, and teaches you to be an expert in selecting and using the best knives. His insights for cooking and preparing food are easy to apply in your own kitchen! You will learn how to smoke Alaskan halibut or salmon, learn how the sun and temperature affect greens grown in our Northern Garden and peek into making sourdough bread as part of the Alaska food story. After all the learning you will enjoy an individually served tasting of smoked fish, vegetables from the garden, sourdough bread and finish up by making (and eating) home-made ice cream! You will conduct three experiments that include smoking (and tasting) Alaska Salmon (an ancient form of preservation) using purple cabbage to determine pH of foods and making your own ice cream dessert. This unique experience will give you the skills to bring your Alaskan food favorites home.

Legends & Lies
Travel back to those bygone days and experience life in a Gold Rush saloon. The Legends and Lies Gold Rush Saloon Experience takes you back in time to the wilds of Alaska circa 1897. The Klondike Gold Rush was going full fury with more than 100,000 stampeders on their way North to find gold and glory. The saloon was a vital part of life for the stampeder, the place to get news, make deals, play cards, and find companionship. Skagway boasted 80 saloons in a town only 10 blocks long. Skagway was a boom town full of hope, despair, and drama - all played out in a saloon! You'll learn to make classic stampeder libations, beverages that warmed the hearts of the prospectors, both the lucky and the downtrodden. You will use ingredients straight from the Inn's culinary garden and make two different traditional drinks (with a choice of alcohol or no alcohol recipes.) As you sample the beverages and nibble on an array of snacks including salmon or cheese quesadillas, halibut mini-cakes, chips with homemade rhubarb salsa, and reindeer pig-in-a-blanket, you'll hear stories, fact and fiction, and music played on an upright piano. Finish with a Prohibition era Shrub and Iceworm toast to your willing or unwilling induction into the great Order of the Sourdough.

About the Show For nearly 100 years The Days of '98 Show has been dazzling audiences with music, laughter, and the legendary CAN CAN! Experience a day in the life of Jefferson "Soapy" Smith, Alaska's most notorious outlaw, who reigned during the wildest days of Skagway during the 1898 Klondike Gold Rush. This colorful vaudevillian musical brings you into the "Skaguay" of 1898 with the thrills and frills of the dancehalls and the chills felt by gold rush stampeders along the trail of '98. This show has been a Skagway tradition for cruise ship, bus, and RV visitors for over 100 years and is an iconic performance and a "must see" while in Skagway. Who Was Soapy Smith? November 2, 1860 - July 8, 1898 All of the events depicted in this original play are taken from the Skagway historical record and center on Soapy Smith's reign over the town during the Klondike Gold Rush of 1897 and 1898. Jefferson Randolph Smith was born in Georgia in 1860 and ventured west as a young man. He learned his trade as a con man during the silver and gold rushes of Colorado and eventually made it to Skagway in the fall of 1897. Here, he and Colorado cohort "Rev." John Bowers assembled what was reputed to be the largest band of thieves in North America. Skagway was described by Canadian Mountie Sam Steele as "a little better than hell on earth," and Smith's gang reigned supreme for nine months. Smith had a wife and family in St. Louis but he befriended Miss Belle Davenport and her "soiled doves," Alice and Mollie in Seattle before heading North. While his men did most of the dirty work, Soapy tried to establish himself as a solid citizen of Skagway. He contributed to the building of Skagway's first church and founded an "Adopt a Dog" program. City surveyor Frank Reid and others saw through Smith's good deeds and tried to run the con man and his gang out of town, but Smith was able to rally much of the business community around him. Soapy was riding high on July 4, 1898, as he rode his white horse up Broadway and then stood on the platform with the Governor of Alaska. Four days later he was dead man. His gang robbed a Nanaimo, British Columbia stampeder named J.D. Stewart of $2,800 in gold dust. Smith stood by his troops and refused to give the gold back. Reid's vigilante Committee of 101 gathered at the Juneau Co. Wharf as there was no hall in Skagway big enough to contain the mob. Most of Smith's men ran for the hills, but Soapy grabbed his Winchester and headed for the wharf to break up the meeting. You'll witness the events leading up to this historic moment. In 1923, Princess steamships started bringing tourists to Skagway. The local residents decided to put on a show for them to raise money for their local hockey team. The team needed new uniforms to compete in the White Pass Athletic League against their rival team in Whitehorse, Yukon. The show became an instant tradition and has been running ever since.

After, enjoy roasting s’mores around the campfire and exploring our picturesque surroundings in the forest. Historic Gold Rush Scenic Drive Tour
Your tour begins at the pier where you’ll meet your knowledgeable guide. Your small, intimate group will board a van and drive through Skagway’s historic district and residential district en route to the backcountry and the gold rush-era town of Dyea. On this excursion in Skagway, hear tales about Skagway’s time as a gold rush boom town as your guide points out some of its historic buildings. Driving through Skagway’s residential district you’ll learn all kinds of interesting facts about this wonderful town. Once out of town, your tour leads over a mountain road to what was once the gold rush city of Dyea. Along the way, you’ll stop at the Naku Bay overlook and peer down the inside passage – North America’s longest and deepest fjord. Next, head to the trailhead of the Chilkoot Trail. This world-famous trail was the main route to the riches of the Klondike during the gold rush over 100 years ago. Now a tranquil place of incredible beauty, the trail winds through a lush rainforest alive with birds, animals, and wildflowers. Here, your guide weaves an entertaining mix of natural history and Klondike folklore. Next, your tour heads out to the abandoned gold rush town of Dyea. The spruce and hemlock trees grow along what was once the streets of a bustling town full of stampeders seeking fortune. Before returning to Skagway, you’ll get some more great photo opportunities at the Taiya River overlook and a fantastic look at Skagway from above at the Skagway overlook. This tour is a great way to discover and learn about Skagway – A small town with a lot to see. * Timings: (~15 minutes) - Your friendly guide will meet you near the Skagway Small Boat harbor sign and restrooms. Here they will take the opportunity to get to know you and provide answers to any questions that you might have about your upcoming excursion and complete any necessary paperwork. (~10 minutes) - Tour of historic Skagway and residential District. (~20 minutes) - We'll head out of town and stop at the Naku Bay overlook. (~25 minutes) - We'll make our way along the coast toward the Chilkoot Trail trailhead, and learn more about the Gold Rush. (bathroom stop) (~25 minutes) - We'll journey to the historic townsite of Dyea. (~15 minutes) - As we retrace our steps back towards town, we'll stop at an overlook of the Taiya River. (~25minutes) - Before returning to Skagway, we'll stop at the Skagway overlook, and then return to the dock.
