FishHound Expeditions is a guide owned, guide operated company offering Alaska Fly Fishing Trips on some of Alaskas' best rivers. With over 30 years of combined guiding experience we are truly FishHounds! We have taken our years of experience and found the best Alaska fishing for our clients through countless fishing trips and have gained permits for our most favorite and remote rivers.
Our guides are local fisherman first so we know when & where to catch fish on the Alaskan road system. With a beautiful drive just an hour and fifteen minutes north of Anchorage we have access to some of the best fishing in the state no bush plane needed!
FishHound is named lovingly after our hound dog: Hatch. Hatch was found as a puppy on the side of the road after a great day of fishing & catching an incredible may-fly hatch, thus his name sake. The company is a product of veteran guides Adam Cuthriell and Dave Repta "Reps" and of course their loving wives. We have over thirty years of combined guiding experience all over the world, but have made our home here in the great state of Alaska.
Owner & Alaska fishing guide Adam Cuthriell has been chasing fish on a fly for his clients all over North America and Kamchatka for the last 15 years. His excitement, passion, & knowledge for all things with fins is equaled only by his love of the river. The years of experience helps us adapt to our clients individual needs and learning styles to make their progression in fishing excel whether that be learning to hold a fly rod for the first time or perfect the perfect Double-spey. When not in the river Adam can be found chasing water it in its other form... Snow! Throughout the great state of Alaska and all its snowy peaks via split-board, snow machine, or ice axes. He is also a state of Alaska EMT and active member on Girdwood Volunteer Fire & Rescue.
Alaska fishing guide Dave Repta or "Reps" as he is known in the Alaskan fishing scene. Reps has been fishing Alaskan waters from Kodiak to the Brooks Range for the last 32 years. While guiding hundreds of clients from around the world the last 15 years, his ability to read water and put you on the fish can't be matched.
Reps wife Gwenn will be working behind the scenes baking fresh cookies, breads, tasty treats and amazing home made jellies for you on the river, and does all the packing and shipping for our expedition trips. We couldn't do all this without her!
What we'll do
Visiting Alaska in the winter and want to get a fishing rod in your hands?
Join us for a fun filled day out on the ice! This trip is great for all ages and all experience levels!
Most of the rivers we fish are covered in ice and a blanket of snow during a large portion of the year. If you're visiting Alaska in the winter and want to get a fishing rod in your hands, ice fishing Alaska is an amazing trip and a great time for all ages and all experience levels!
Hard water fishing is a big part of Alaskan life and we are happy to share it with folks visiting our great state. We are able to take folks out ice fishing throughout the greater Anchorage area as well as Girdwood, and the Mat-Su Valley.
Once the location is decided we will come pick you up or have you follow us out to the lake. Once we get there, guests and guides will walk out on to the lake and up goes the warm portable pop up ice shelter and out comes the ice auger to drill through the ice.
Hot drinks or cold beer are readily at hand throughout the day, and a heater is churning away keeping the hut toasty and warm. We also provide homemade chili as a delicious hot snack.
Everyone gets a fishing pole to pursue a variety of fish such as rainbow trout, Arctic grayling, juvenile salmon, black fish, and Arctic char.
We also provide comfortable seats and ice cleats to help you make your time on the ice as comfortable and easy as possible. We provide almost everything you will need to have a great day out on the ice!
Guest’s need to come prepared with their own warm clothes and footwear. After all, this is ice fishing Alaska style! Guests will also need a fishing license, and an eagerness to try and land some fish!
